The US which saw unusualy strong job growth this year by comparison saw 2 Million jobs added Unemployment is at a 41 year low at 5.7% (4.7% roughly using US methology of measuring unemployment) and GDP is estimated to have grown over 3% tho that number is still subject to later revisions Labor force particiation is also one of the highest in developed world at 65.8% making the percentage of population that is employed quite high
Economy 53,144
I wonder if the big minimum wage hike will cause job losses in first wuaryer of 2018 tho my girlfriends store had to fire 4 people and she wasnt one of the ones fired but her hours still got cut

Immagine that i remember companies used to offer stay bonuses. If u stayed with them a year ud win a trip to mexico for example then oil prices collapsed and all that changed

This will reduce oppurtunity in level entry jobs where ppl gain their first experience... also companies can only cut so much staff so any savings they cant make up for by cutting staff will raise price of goods and services for everyone else The Government here in Ontario is so irresponsible you have no idea. They put so many rules, regulations and requirements that raise the cost of doing everything... not just running a business but everything They also burn cash like if it grows on trees. I remember a couple years ago Ontarios deficit was bigger than Canadas Federal Government like WTF Anyway budget is a bit more under control now but they are not making good long term decisions tbh. They try to micro manage economy and screw things up... Our electricity rates now are rediculous and Manufacturing companies now prefer Quebec over Ontario The Liberals are suppusto be Centre Wing but they are acting like the super left (NDP)
rumours 45,521
If you had Supreme leader Trump, you’re unemployment rate would be -6.66%. You’re missing out, @Economy

You’re missing out, @Economy Well hes cutting taxes and plans to spend more on infrastructure Any idiot can do that, and anyone with half a brain knows that will only bankrupt America further long term and risk financial meltdown like Greece but in the short term taxing economy less and spending more will obviously help economy. I know this was sarcasm but im telling u Trump actually will heat economy short term Hes too dumb to come up with creative long term ideas for more economic growth so he does what a 12 year old could do if he was running a Nation. Just heat up the economy short term by bankrupting it And hes too stupid for thinking it will be revenue neutral. The ripple effect to gain back $1 dollar in taxes from every $1 in tax cuts and get a 1:1 ratio would require astronomical economic growth and very strong ripple effect from tax cuts and higher spending his plans will lift growth a little but no where near enough to be revenue neutral

It might be an interesting economic experiment if the US debt weren’t about to hit $21 trillion.

It wouldnt come even close to explaining all the job gains No doubt it contributed for sure. But many think the increased child benefits for families had more to do with it by directly giving people more money to spend. also our last Government had almost balanced the budget again while our new Government increased spending on all kinds of programs like infrastructure and orher programs helping economic stimulation One thing is for sure. With tax cuts in US, and Canadas high consumer debt and new stress test mortgage rules... no doubt USA will outperform Canada in 2018 Canada atm isnt benefiting from higher oil prices because the pipeline outage last month plus bottleneck issues there were with trains created a worse discount than usual and were selling oil at $30/barrel right now
Woolfsmck 2,763
What I meant was demand for housing is partially fueled by an increase in the number of "employed" people looking for a place to stay like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still.
