We've tried it in Russia and it didn't work out really well :madge:

Fair point. I guess I'm more upset that many people assume a great deal about communism without having read the source text(s).

There must be a different approach to the social-economic system than capitalism. Maybe some socialist anarchist elements thrown into it?  Anarchy means no government/rules and socialism is, in a way, about how resources are allocated. That's way too brief, I know. But there's gotta be something better than what we've got now. It's not the worst but many people in so-called "developed" countries are also hurting (just as they did in communist ones, I know). Sorry for my hippy, peace-man rant :awkney:

Well I guess it's something we owe to Russia's beautiful dark-twisted history. Experiments that tried to bring some of the ideas that were later identified as "Communism" started in the second half of the XIX century, and the Paris Commune of 1871 did show us that Communism was no game.

However, in the late 1880s and 1890s, following Karl Marx's death and the publication of Vol. II and Vol. III of the Capital, Communism became academically trendy, sort of fashionable, with professors and lectors in many countries holding public meetings aimed at popularizing and explaining The Capital and the ideas of Communism.

And in 1917, when people who identified themselves as Communists seized power in Russia following the October 1917 Revolution, and the civil war burst out, and  1,5 million people that died during fighting in Russian Civil War and the futher 8 million civilians that died following armed attacks, famine and disease, and the 2 million people that fled Russia created the worst ever public image of a philosophic movement that one could ever think of. Stalin's Purges of 1930s and 1940s also added to the picture, and before long Communism acquired a tragic business card that read:

Communism: the philosophy behind 11 million deaths in Russia. Wanna join and ruin your country, too?

That surely made people assume a great deal about communism. Russia's infamous path to Communism was paved with seas of blood, and people found it hard to ignore the fact that communism doesn't really require bathing the whole country in blood before sending a man to space and creating an inclusive education and healthcare system without gender discrimination.

Restoring Communism's reputation is not going to be easy, but I think that some of the Capital's elements can be digested on a socialist platform, like you've said, and hopefully those ideas could help fix the positions of those who are hurting in the developed countries. However, I'd strongly advise you against mixing communism and anarchy. Maybe you are more knowledgeable about anarchy than I am, but in the ancient Greek sense of the world it means the society that functions not according to the rule of law, but according to the rule of power, and in such society everybody can use power and violence to achieve whatever goals. That's way too dangerous, in my opinion.

He’s completely out of touch with reality. I wouldn’t put it past a nutcase like him to try something extreme
