So I got through Björk's Discography...

Hello guys :emma:

Anyway, some of you might remember a thread that I uploaded about a month ago on asking for help on how to get into Björk:

And I've gotten through all of it! While I think I might've gone through the music too fast and my opinion will likely change on her music, for those interested I'll sorta leave a summary...

I LOVE HER SO MUCH. Starting with Utopia was definitely not a good idea on my part, as that album is kinda long and less dependent on melodies than others. Anyway, apart from that album, which I revisited last, here is the order I went in:

Post -> Vespertine -> Vulnicura -> Debut -> Homogenic -> Volta -> Biophilia -> Medulla -> Utopia re-listen

I sorta mixed the general consensus on the order in which people recommended to go in + my interest, and I have to say that this was a good order to go in. The one thing which could've been done differently was listening to Vulnicura later, but knowing it was a follow-up to Vespertine I just couldn't help myself

I am in awe of her creativity and diversity :tony:  My favorite albums by her must be Vespertine because of the beautiful and sensual delivery, Vulnicura because of the beauty of the strings and the heartbreak that you can almost taste, and Biophilia because of the absolutely amazing and creative instrumentation that works so well (I hear this album gets a lot of slander in the fanbase but I DISAGREE)

The only album which I'm kinda lukewarm on is Volta, but even it has some nice standouts.

Overall, song-wise, some of my favorites must be: Virus, Hidden Place, Hyperballad, Mutual Core, Pagan Poetry, Aurora, Black Lake, Crystalline, Cosmogony, Stonemilker, History Of Touches, Army Of Me, Blissing Me, Hunter, Joga, Earth Intruders, and The Modern Things (way too many favorites but like:poot:)

Sorry for this irrelevant post, but I wanted to express my opinion somewhere and maybe some of you wanted to read this :selena:

Vespertine is one of my favorite albums ever.

I would suggest going through her videos and cheking out Dancer In The Dark.

They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

Biophilia is one of her most creative albums ever, no questions asked. And it completely changed her music, the way she started using technology still influences her work.

I love Homogenic. A bit more commercial, but I think it's a highlight from the evolution she had since her early works.

Vulnicura is simply getting better and better with time.

I'm glad you liked Bjork's work, she truly is amazing. Most people around here need a few Bjork in their lives to understand what experimental and progressive and avant-garde is.

I like some of her songs and have genuinely tried to get into her music...but I think it’s her voice I don’t enjoy. It just rubs me the wrong way (Kinda like Taylor tbh :reductive:) but I still think she is really talented.

Just my opinion.

I started getting into her disco 6 months ago and i still have to listen to Medulla, Volta and Biophilia.  Plus that juvenila album, her jazz album (:lolga:), her rock bands phase and her 50 collabs. :sis:

It's actually kinda funny you say how some people need her to understand experimental music, because in the midst of when I was listening to Medulla I saw a thread pop up here about Gaga's most experimental song, and while looking through it I just kept thinking "wow these are nothing :wtfga:"

Not that Gaga's generic but I don't think she's gone truly experimental yet/idk if she will. The fact that it took Björk almost 30 years to produce all these albums is also a factor.

Experimentality is a quality found on every genre to an extend, as I said in that OP. :sis::sis::sis:

But Björk's technically also in the pop field tho :oprah:

Regardless while Gaga's songs are definitely different from her contemporaries, and songs like Venus and Bloody Mary can definitely be seen as experimental for pop songs, just comparing her to Björk at the time was just a sorta funny thing at the time

 you're right.

Bjork music is an amalgam of genres. I like to think if you listened to her discography you listened to every genre possible. She has almost everything: classical, electronic, folk, pop, rock, african beat, jazz, dance.

This guy i was dating introduced me to her and i tried to get into her, but i do like a couple of her songs. Pagan Poetry, Joga, the iconic Hyperballad etc. Most of her music is too experimental for me though. :selena: Too artsy for my basic gay self. However Pagan Poetry snatches my wig>>>. I love when she screams/growls.

There can be 99 bottoms in the area but all it takes is 1 top to believe in you.

I think she’s good and I used to be into that type of music - but I just can’t listen to it anymore. Maybe once I get out of my 20’s I’ll re-appreciate it.
