Ariana and Taylor

I'd go with Ariana, Dua Lipa and Camila Cabello.

Dua Lipa and Camila are new to the scene and have had succes but I don't see them anywhere close to being icons.

A Hybrid

Taylor Swift 2017 is the closest to being an icon at the moment. But I think most of the newer artists are one hit wonders now :selena:

Ariana is definitely not a flop considering how big Side To Side was.

But look at her hits, she seems to struggle with her solo songs topping the chart.. Literally every top 5 hits of her has a feature.

maybe because she only has two pop albums and she released them this decade, we all know she isnt new but she used to a contry singer and now she's a main pop girl

Ariana has 7 hits so far, she's part of the new generation of pop girls aka she's a streaming monster, her sales are kinda low because of that. She hasn't released an album nor song this year and yet she 25th person most listened on Spotify(28m listeners) I don't stan ari btw but I can accept when someone is successful

None have really became as huge as the older pop girls.  Riri, gaga, katy, Taylor, Adele etc are still the ones most talked about and they been around for like 10 years now.

There is a few new ones who have gotten hits but they are still nowhere as big as the ones above was in their debut years.

Naor Daniel

80s - Madonna

90s - Celine, Mariah

2000s - Britney, Beyonce, Christina, Rihanna, Gaga (the best decade for pop music)

2010s - Taylor, Katy

Mentioned above are actual huge, iconic, trend setting artists that emerged in the last 4 decades (though Taylor and Katy are not legends in any way)

I'd say the only new pop girl is Ariana Grande and Camilla is now emerging as her biggest comparable competition.

I think both cannot ever be HUGE as they lack a huge, culture influencing hit and I doubt they'll ever be able to make one. It seems like pop has lost its prime.

I believe all Ariana needs is a really, really big album, and she needs to change her image. She is still a medium artist in my eyes. She's successful, she's good, but she has never been huge.

doppelganger

The most iconic, of course there are others ;

70s - Stevie Nicks, Barbara Streisand, Carole King

80s - MTV generation pop provocateur: Janet, Madonna. Both have continued success through the 90s.

90s - the conservative period. The holy trinity vocalists: Mariah Carey, Celine, Whitney. The alternative rockstars : Shery Crow, Alanis Morisette, Bjork

00s - The pop princess: Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera. The dancing R&B divas : Beyonce, Rihanna and Ciara.

10s - The modern day pop provocateur: Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kesha. I know Gaga exploded in 08-09 but her impact continues through the 2010s and Kesha, Katy are her contemporaries

And then there are the country-pop crossover artists Shania and Taylor Swift.

It’s always challenging for more provocative female artists to make an impact. There are a lot of cool and talented female singers today but I wouldn’t put them on the same pedestal as Madonna, Gaga and Britney. These artists shocked the industry.

Ariana, Taylor (Even though she's been making music for a while she only did officially switch to pop in 2014) and Sia (Who's also been making music for a while but only really became famous in the last few years)
