GypsyVida 5,930
I just realized this nugget of truth. The famous Shakespeare play "Hamlet" is what the TV series "Bates Motel" is based off of. Norman Bates = Hamlet Norma Bates = Gertrude Alex Romero = Claudius Norman has mental issues, so does Hamlet. Norma married quite quickly after her husband's death, just like Gertrude married Claudius 2 months after the King's death. Norman has the Oedipus Complex just like Hamlet may have it. Norma covered up the murder of her husband, just like Gertrude did. Dylan can also be seen as Hamlet in a sense because Emma's dad wasn't very approving of him when they first started dating, just like Polonius wasn't very approving of Hamlet for Ophelia (this may be reaching though). What do you think? DO you agree that Anthony Cipriano took major inspiration from Shakespeare? currently streaming Zombieboy

elijahfan 26,029
That’s an interesting analysis, but I think this is most likely a coincidence, since it is very hard to see Bates Motel mirror the story of Hamlet as a whole. All in all, those are themes and character dynamics that have been explored since the dawn of time in tragedies - it’s nothing solely specific to Hamlet.
