Morphine Prince 109,654
Barack Obama has warned of the fragility of American democracy, making reference to the rise of Nazi Germany in the 1930s. Speaking during a question and answer session at the Economic Club of Chicago on Tuesday, the former US president warned against growing nativism in America. “We have to tend to this garden of democracy or else things could fall apart quickly,” Mr Obama said. He went on to compare the situation to Germany in the 1930s where, despite a long history of high-level cultural and scientific achievements (and the existence of a functioning democracy), Adolph Hitler nonetheless rose to power, reported Crain’s Chicago Business. “Sixty million people died,” he added. “So, you've got to pay attention. And vote.” Although Mr Obama did not mention Donald Trump by name, some believed his comments were aimed at the current US president and his “Make America Great Again” rhetoric - which critics argue has fuelled nationalism. There are non-presidential elections going on, but it seems a bit too late to warn us about this, no? I fell down the stairs once as an actor. DiscoHeaven23 35,007
him saying this just seems even more grim. It seems like something the last REAL president of a democratic country would warn about when a new powerful man with scary actions and beliefs has been in power for almost a year. I think that goes to Kim of North Korea But here's the thing. North Korea has always been like that since the Korea War, with stronger nukes than before. However, the U.S. should be a free, democratic place that doesn't allow fascism or elements of Nazism to appear anywhere close to the White House. For goodness sake, the alt-right people's grandfathers and great-grandfathers fought against the Nazis in WWII, and now they're screaming that they cannot be white and there should be a stronger white power and so on. We all know that's BS, as whites have great privilege in the American society. A country who had a good track of progression should not back track so quickly within a year, nor should the president spend time dividing up the nations (not inviting Democrat Jews to Hanukah celebrations is one recent example) or preach hate without thoughts put in his actions. Trump feeds on the fear of the voters, and knows what they want to hear, not what they need to hear. He has not passed a major legislation in his first year, but instead, rips apart Obama era's laws and actively put middle and lower classes at a disadvantage so they have less say over the upper classes. If you have to talk about the 'good old days', blame the media and election candidates for everything that happened, and endorse senators who have no moral values to show in order to stay in power, then something is deeply, deeply wrong. This part is so weird I mean it’s true but it’s such a weird statement to make, it’s like saying “despite the fact the sky is blue, Hitler still happened” It’s just so irrelevant

He doesn’t care about the middle or lower class, that’s why he has no qualms removing their healthcare, their welfare, and the needs of veterans, children and the elderly He spews rhetoric of hate, division, elitism, nationalism and just straight up violence. The fact that people can’t seem to see that is scary, considering he wants to remove Net Neutrality and build a wall. That sounds pretty dictatorial to me

We must keep everyone in check every day, and not assume that democracy will always exist when we turn away. If people picked up warning signs, and understand that change can happen, this may have been prevented. I fell down the stairs once as an actor.
