The Night Gaga Healed America: A Throwback

I was watching Gaga's Superbowl performance today, for what was probably the 17,329th time this year. As usual, I laughed, I cried, I sang along, I attempted the Telephone choreo and knocked down my mom's lamp shade.

But I was reminded again that beyond the flawless vocals, and the energetic dancing, and the pyrotechnics and drones and roof jumps and mid-air flips, Gaga managed to do the impossible that night: she unified both sides of a bitterly divided America.

What Gaga did was no easy feat, and I really hope history doesn't sweep her accomplishment under the rug. As you probably all know, America is a deeply divided country after last year's election (as poll after poll has found). The nation was arguably at its lowest point just after the election (and perhaps still is), and yet, Gaga managed to make both sides of the country forget about their problems for 13 minutes and enjoy one thing, together.

Can you think of anyone or anything else that has managed to do the same thing over the past year? Yeah, me neither.

She got praise from the left, sure. But praise from the right?

From Ivanka Trump??

From conservative political commentator Tomi Lahren??

From right-wing news sources like

The Blaze??

"Lady Gaga’s epic halftime show was just what the country needed"

Breitbart??

"Every entertainer likes to be subversive — to push the envelope and surprise their audience. At a time when Hollywood has made itself insufferable with its increasingly hysterical political commentary, Lady Gaga shocked the world simply by entertaining it."

Conservative Daily??

Which had Trump supporter soccer moms and dads PRAISING her to no end?

"She promoted INCLUSIVENESS. Her God Bless America & Pledge paid tribute to our history of open arms and Born this Way was just a BONUS!"

"Lady Gaga made her statement without being offensive, destroying or belittling anyone. I may not agree with her politically, but I can respect what she did because it was done in a non harmful way. She stayed true to who she is and showed unity without incident."

"Not a huge fan of Lady Gaga, but really enjoyed her half time show. She showed such class and thought of our country not personal views. Way to go. She just gained a fan"

Not to mention the scores of Trump supporters on Reddit, notorious for tearing down every last "liberal SJW cuck" (:madge:) and chanting "lock her up!", who had nothing but kind words?

"face it guys, she won this round. that was a great show."

"Solid performance, lots of fireworks and theatrics as to expected, no political gimmicks or cringe. Just overall straightforward."

"Credit where credit is due. I appreciate that Lady Gaga didn't do some SJW stunt during halftime. It was light hearted and pro USA. THANK YOU"

"I was satisfied with her performance. Thank you for not making literally everything political."

"The best halftime show you could ask for if lady gaga was performing. [...] she earned my respect"

The point of this thread is not to gloat over the fact that a couple of Trump supporters liked Gaga. The point is that healing a bitter divide is possible; bringing together two opposing sides to agree on one single thing is possible; bringing down barriers of hate and misunderstanding is possible, and Gaga proved it. Take away the party lines and we are all just humans, wanting to feel included and loved and part of something infinitely greater than ourselves, and through the power of her music and her love for all people, Gaga made us feel exactly that.

So thank you, Gaga. Because for one brief, shining moment in February, we were not Democrats or Republicans. Trump supporters or Hillary supporters. Left or right. We were all citizens of this great nation we call home, from the mountains to the prairies, to the oceans white with foam -- a land made for you and me.

We were Americans.

I will never forget it. :diane:

I just remember screeching while on face time with my friend who was there. But there was a lag on my TV so I hung up on her :diane:

Also, Gaga sprinkled magic on the field so the Patriots performed the most amazing comeback in history. Literally...the score was her birthday when she took the field...3 to 28.  :diane:

:sharon:

She certainly cursed the Falcons though...because in FF2 she was clearly rooting for the Patriots. I'm kind of scared of her power tbh.
