Ed already explained her contributions and the harmonies definitely count. If he thinks she doesn't deserve credit he won't give her.

It's probably for composition, she does harmonize and play with the melody so I'd say it's for composition not lyrics (composition and melody is probably as important if not more than lyrics)

Totally. But how much do you have to change a melody to get credit? Harmonizing is pretty easy if the song is already written.

I think people are still blindly ignorant to how writing credits work just so that they can make the same jokes.

No one is claiming that she created the damn song :rip: No one is expecting or trying to make anyone believe that she wrote a verse or anything like that. But her harmonies definitely count as additional composition, and I guess some people are saying her melody is different too? I don't know the song well enough to say.

It's well known that Bey handles her own vocal production which includes arranging harmonies - which isn't easy. Yes, we know she didn't write any lyrics. I don't see why anyone is amazed by this or finds it funny lol.

Technically you don't have to do anything to get a credit on a song. They are just what's put down as decided by artist/management/label etc. Elvis Presley got writing credits on a small amount of his songs despite never writing one. That could still easily happen now. On the other end of the spectrum, you get ghost writers all the time in popular music who remain nameless. And then there's everything in-between. So really, unless it's a solo credit (and even then it's not certain), the actual credits don't necessarily represent who did what to create a song.

But chances are Ed still took part in rewriting "She" for "He" which means Bey contributed in half a word. Is that writing? Not in my book

Beyonce is not a more talented songwriter than Britney Spears period.  Don't even try to overvalue whatever the hell she contributes as a songwriter.  She doesn't deserve any more praise than Britney as a songwriter in any capacity whatsoever.

Is she a more talented overall singer/entertainer/performer than someone like Britney? Yes.  That's where Beyonce should be respected solely.

Like Linda Perry said, Beyonce is talented in a completely different way.  She's completely incapable of writing a song by herself because she isn't talented enough to do it.

All these contributions she makes as a songwriter are absolutely no different than what Britney Spears' collaborators always say about her.  And nobody really takes Britney serious as a songwriter and they should do the same for Beyonce.
