They absolutely don't have the budget for better stuff than Zara and H&M. Plus, it wouldn't have made sense for the character to wear luxury brands - at least early on in the story. But hey, $400 for jeans isn't that incredible... especially for the lead role. I remember someone saying that for Woody Allen's film "Blue Jasmine", they had to ask all the labels to lend them stuff, and that Cate Blanchett's handbag alone in the film would have cost the entire wardrobe budget....
