No he didn't. Dont make things up to diss what Madonna did if you dont know about it. That's not knocking you, nobody knows everything. Madonna was the one. I could do a huge boring essay if you like.

Tell me what Elton did and it could be multiplied 100 times what Madonna did. But theres no need for that :)

Just some random receipts off the top of my head:

(in the 80's)

One of her ex boyfriends back in the 80's died of AIDS she spoke about it (the artist Basqait)

One of her best friends she lived with and wore his clothes died ( Keith Haring) she spoke about it.

Her dance teacher from back in Detroit who told her to go to NY died, she spoke about it.

(This was a time when even president Reagan wouldn't talk about it)

People didn't mention 'the gay cancer' on TV it was taboo, she did at awards shows and on live TV. She got in trouble. There was no medication for it then, she saw her friends dying. She promoted please have safe sex. Hardly anybody had heard about it and famous people were scared to talk about it.

Her 1987 tour They handed out flyers about it, it was a huge stadium tour that no woman had done before on the screen in the back it mentioned AIDS and safe sex in huge letters.

She did walkathons, danceathons and paid for her friends hospital bills.

She did speeches, nobody else would dare to do.

Her like a prayer album came with a leaflet.

her 1990 tour she spoke about it donated shows money towards it.

Her sex book had a whole page about it and Erotica had a song about it.

1993 tour she spoke about it and donated money.

you know it goes on and on forever, i wont bore everyone.

Skip years later, she had a ray of light foundation charity.

She then focused on AIDS in Africa paid for/built multiple orphanages, adopted 4 affected babies and made a documentary out of her back pocket 'i am because we are' (you should see it, its good)

After: raising Malawi charity.

She did a song with Annie Lennox, the money went to AIDS charities.

She built a school for kids affected by AiDS

Shes built a baby hospital too.

The Malawi change isn't as real to us as they aren't on line, it seems so far away. She did her AIDS work in the Western world, now trying to help other countries.

Elton spoke about AIDS in 1990 throws a glitzy party once a year and had 2 surrogate white babies. See theres no need to say 'so did Elton' It doesn't matter that he didn't. He helps now.

(you know im going to think of more but itll turn even more boring, sorry).

She was a pioneer! Somebody that became so famous she made everyone know that this new 'gay cancer' was going about and its called AIDS and please wear condoms. This was a time that was shocking to hear about or mention. It was her mission through touchy times when you are trying to sell records, she didn't care, she wanted people to know and keep themselves safe and give them the info. It wasn't on TV or publicised. She became big and used it to help everyone.

I dont think younger people who weren't around then know how much respect the woman deserves. She was amazing and still hasn't retired and still helping the AIDS crisis. I guess people that dont know think shes a lady dancing around with a microphone, she is (and bloody amazing at it) but theres so much more to her.

If you like her or not the girl from Detroit needs a round of applause.

Who give a fxck who did it first?! This is foolishness!

This movement is to raise awareness, not who did it first for the street creds. Some of y’all just make everything into unecessary competition and missed the actual points.

The more people doing it the better and each of them can do it their own way.

Be it an article on magazines, or party to raise funds from the wealthy bosses  and celebs that got invited so the scientists can keep trying to find the cure for AIDS, etc

this is a lame comment.

it has nothing to do with competition. Madonna should be applauded for her efforts because it made a difference. No where in this post does it say anything about her being THE first. Cuz she actually wasn't. Pioneer simply means one of the first out of a group, but that wasn't even the point of my post. It was to share her contributions to helping attack a disease that killed many gay men in the late 70's/80s/90s and had it not been for her and others, many of us on this site (many of us are gay) would be dealing with and dying from this in much larger numbers.

People will only know of someone's impact and achievements once they've passed sadly. Notice how people only started listening to bowie and prince once they've passed, especially this generation. Madge is the Queen.

Of course leave it to people to instead of thanking Madonna for contributing to research and showing support during a time people would shun you for even supporting AIDS research, let's talk about her decline in music and "narcissistic personality overshadowing her contributions."
