The Departure of Katie Couric Showed Who Matt Is

As discussed earlier today on GGD, Matt Lauer was terminated from The Today Show, after more than 20 years as a co-anchor. 

Lauer started out with the very popular and star of the show, Katie Couric. For 9 years the two shared the desk together. 

With the two co-anchorsm Al Rocker and Ann Curry, the show became MEGA popular during those years. 

 

 

Towards the end of Katie's time at The Today Show rumors began to spread that Katie and Matt were not getting along. Katie was the star of the show, taking in the bigger contracts and Matt was allegedly jealous. In 2006, Katie left the show to anchor the CBS Evening News. 

 

This made Matt the head anchor of the show, with the addition of Meredith Viera, previously form The View, to the team. 

 

It was during this time that Matt's attitude's toward women began to show more. 

However, one of the first visible moments was at the end of Katie's time on the show when he interviewed Kelly Clarkson and was hitting on her in a way that she clearly wasn't comfortable with 

He said: "Im back from vacation and you got my attention" after saying she had a hot new look. 

 

 

After 5 years Meredith Viera left the show in 2011, citing that the early morning schedule was too much for her. 

 

This brought in Ann Curry as the new co-anchor of the show. But in 2012, it began to spread that Lauer did not like Ann as a co-anchor and wanted her off the show. In 2012, Ann was let go from the job

Her goodbye was sad and it was disgusting to see how Matt reacted to her good-bye message

 

One of the four main anchors of the Today Show following Viera's departure was Natalie Morales, who was on the show in a more minor role in years past. Rumors circulated for years that Natalie and Matt had something going on. In 2016, Morales left the show to host Access Hollywood. There has been rumors that Matt Lauer was the reason she left the show. 

 

 

Earlier this year, popular host of the 3rd hour of Today Tamron Hall left the show. Rumors have circulated that Matt Lauer was a part of this. Tamron became the first female black host at the Today Show. 

 

So while Matt stayed on the show, these 3 woman have disappeared in some questionable ways.

Just a few months after Curry’s departure, Lauer conducted a one-on-one interview with Les Miserables star Anne Hathaway that began with the comment, “Seen a lot of you lately.” He was referring to a so-called “wardrobe malfunction” that had been captured by paparazzi at the premiere of that film. 

“Sorry about that,” Hathaway replied tersely. “I’d be happy to stay home, but the film.”

But Lauer pressed on, asking, “What’s the lesson learned from something like that, other than that you keep smiling, which you’ll always do?”

“I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment, and rather than delete it and do the decent thing, sells it,” Hathaway told Lauer. “And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants,” she added, before deftly steering the conversation back to the project she was promoting (and for which she would go on to win an Oscar).

Two years later, Lauer came under fire once again, this time for asking GM CEO Mary Barra if she could handle the double duty of running a giant company and being a parent, a question that he almost certainly would never have asked a male chief-executive.

 

 

In 2012, Katie told Andy Cohen that Matt Lauer used to always pinch her on the butt

When he goes in to hug Ann Curry it's so fake and she clearly didn't want it. Its honestly the whole video cuz he's being SO FAKE, when he was responsible for it.
