I dont understand, didnt they already say yes? what was the point in asking people if its not 100% sure then?

Or is it just some formal stuff? because man that would be hard if they would just say: naaaah-

Maybe I am missing something. Can the representive stop the prosess?

It was a non-binding postal vote, or basically a glorified opinion poll. The bill is now going to be debated and voted on in the lower house and then it can be passed into law. 

(that's what I got from quickly googling  If someone else knows more feel free to chime in lol)

No you basically summarised it. But what has been banned now is the right to refuse service to an LGBT couple but we still have to wait a little longer for the actual marriage to be legalised.

The postal vote was just to see if Australia want's marriage equality. There is a possibility that it could get shut down in the senate but after the outcry from Australia they would be stupid to do so

Some referendums are merely to get public opinion and take it into consideration. It does not mean everytime that a referendum is made that its automatic law
