if this'll continue then our chances for LGs next projects are getting slimmer... and Taylor will likely not be nominated.. explains why Look and esp SOY are N/A in the BIG3 Categories..

I wonder if MR might've made it to SOTY if theyou haven't changed their format :oprah:

Or perhaps they nominated artists because of their work and they just happen to be black? Urban sounds have dominated in the past year and black people are the majority in these genres.

And wait, it’s a fact white people’s songs are better? Wtf.

okay, enough with the catfights. but can somebody post the Qualifications for a song be eligible in SOTY and ROTY.. as far as I can remember it involves "PROMINENCE" , Popularity or widely known or something like that aside from Quality of course..

and some of the nominees aint fitting considering those :awkney:

I don't mean that white people's songs are better in general. What I really mean is that nowadays, it feels like it must be a 50% white people's work and 50% black people's work in everything, it's like it must be a diversity, no matter what.

You guys are just bitter and saying stuff like "Diversity no matter what" is kind of dumb because those artists delivered this year. They created amazing works of art. They deserve to be recognized. After all these years. It's time.

Ed (a white man; snubbed) isn't a better artist than Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Bruno or even The Weeknd.

The only real snub was Million Reasons (and I'm not saying this as a fan). So this argument doesn't make any sense. They are excellent and they are... black. Sorry if that bothers you.

Diversity doesn’t mean just Black and White but apparently the Grammys thinks it does :reductive:

They’ve already given Sam Smith a Grammy, the first ever gay man to win a Grammy, so they already are diverse :derpga:

I said that this happens everywhere: work, schools, ....

The Oscars are one example, after the controversy of "The Oscars are racist, #OscarsLessWhite", the Academy "suddenly" decided to nominate more non-white people. That was clearly forced by media.

I don't wanna sound racist, but sometimes ones are better than the others. For example now you are angry becouse there is a male domination on the Grammy's nods: maybe there are not being sexist, maybe it's just that this year, the males were better than women.

Better? With what parameters are you defining 'better'? Or is this all just personal opinion  :interestinga:

I can't believe this sh*t, to be honest. Black artists can't be recognized because the responses are always the same "SJW pandering" "Diversity just for the sake of diversity" "It doesn't make any sense". It's like non-white people can't be excellent. WHAT THE ACTUAL F*CK.

Gaga deserved SOTY and Jay-Z's nominations are trash, but that's it. The rest is fine.

Ed was snubbed and that's amazing. He's trash.
Harry Styles wasn't nominated. That's ok.
Dua Lipa/Demi/Miley weren't nominated. That's ok.
Katy was snubbed. Witness was ****.
Despacito was nominated because its success is out of this world and that's ok.

The nominations this year are pretty decent. I don't understand the complains (except for Gaga and MR/SOTY).

This

Beside the Jay-Z mess, cause I'm sure if his song wouldn't have been nom for SOTY, MR would have, but yeah beside that mess the nom are fine this year. Kendrick is sweeping this year tho and I'm happy for him

But that Oscar controversy was a problem and it needed to be fixed (just like with the Grammys). The Academy was filled with racist old people and they were snubbing non-white projects because, you know, they're... racists. If you see a black person being nominated now and your first thought is "tokenism!!!", you're the problem. Not the artist.

I am tired of all that crap.Awards should be purely about the quality of the music.

It is, though. The change-up sounds like they brought in diversity to give everyone a fighting chance and many of those albums are great. Personally, I loved 4:44, DAMN., Gambino and SZA. They were all very well received. By contrast, someone like Gaga got so so reviews except for Million Reasons which has been widely praised. These nominations feel pretty accurate to where music was in 2017 imo. Even Ed Sheeran, who everyone thought would dominate didn’t and that’s partly because his album really wasn’t that critically well received. To me, this lineup of nominees feels more honest than ever. Major black artists have been bringing it the past few years and this feels like a list that finally recognizes that.
