thatfoxyfeeling 13,225
The Weeknd deserved more noms, not sure why Bruno has so many.
StrawberryBlond 15,050
When I say "snubbed," I don't mean that I personally think these people were worthy nominees, rather, based on the academy's previous acceptance of them, their lack of nominations are surprising. With that in mind... Ariana Grande - Thought she'd maybe get something because of the Manchester attack, if nothing else. Everyday wasn't a big hit and isn't Grammy material, sure, but Side To Side was her biggest hit from the Dangerous Woman era and is her most viewed and liked video and has become one of her biggest hits. Massive surprise there. Miley Cyrus - Yes, this era was a huge flop for her but Malibu was praised by critics and she got amazing views and likes for it. I thought that was worthy of something. Lorde - No nomination other than AOTY is capital b Bizarre. I don't know if that's ever happened in Grammy history? How can your album album be so good as a whole but not good enough in its singles? Katy Perry - Yes, she's never won but she's had multiple nominations for every album thus far, meaning she would normally have been a shoo-in for something here. Don't get me wrong, she deserved nothing and at least they paid her dust just like they paid AP dust, but all the same, I thought there was a chance she might scrape something just because she's Katy. Ed Sheeran - The academy have appreciated him more and more so I really thought he was getting nominations left right and centre. Looks like they really paid attention to the amount of mixed critical reception on this one. Sam Smith - Second biggest shocker. Too Good At Goodbyes has been a big hit worldwide, lots of traction. The academy loved his last era. This should have been a nominee, all things considered. If he can't get his lead single nominated, this perhaps means that he's really going struggle to scrape anything when his album and future singles get put forward next year. Taylor Swift - Biggest shocker of the whole thing with no nomination for Look What You Made Me Do...unless I'm missing something. No one's brought this up. It was released on August 12th, which is over a month before the Grammy deadline is up, so it was well worthy for nomination, right? Or am I just not getting something? On the flipside, I was pleased to see nominations for those they usually don't care about like Kesha and Lana. To have 3 really good albums in the pop category is immense. Both LWYMMD and Ready For It were released as singles before the Grammy deadline. Technically, the GRAMMYs are not a fan of her recent solo singles. They are very meh songs anyway. Even the awful Shake it Off got Grammy noms, even though it didn't win. It's a Taylor lead single. A Grammy nom should be a given. This album really is very up and down for her. One minute, high success, the next minute, huge obstacle. Lead single goes to #1...but just for 3 weeks. Promo singles do well initially...but then drop. Amazing first week international sales...followed by sudden drop.
Lextyr97 20,313
I'm most surprised about The Weeknd. CERTAINLY not surprised about Katy.
