Two more women accuse Al Franken of inappropriate touching

Two more women have told HuffPost that Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) touched their butts in separate incidents. These are the third and fourth such allegations against Franken in the past week. Leeann Tweeden, a radio host, wrote last weekthat Franken had kissed and groped her without her consent during a 2006 USO tour. On Monday, Lindsay Menz accused Franken of groping her at the Minnesota State Fair in 2010.

The two additional women, who said they were not familiar with each others’ stories, both spoke on condition of anonymity. But their stories, which describe events during Franken’s first campaign for the Senate, are remarkably similar — and both women have been telling them privately for years.

In a statement to HuffPost, Franken said, “It’s difficult to respond to anonymous accusers, and I don’t remember those campaign events.”

The first woman, who spoke to HuffPost on condition of anonymity because she’s worried she’ll be harassed online for making the allegation, said Franken groped her when they posed for a photo after a June 25, 2007, event hosted by the Minnesota Women’s Political Caucus in Minneapolis.

“My story is eerily similar to Lindsay Menz’s story,” the first woman said. “He grabbed my buttocks during a photo op.”

The second woman told HuffPost that Franken cupped her butt with his hand at a 2008 Democratic fundraiser in Minneapolis, then suggested the two visit the bathroom together. She spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear that the allegation could affect her position at work.

What a shame :smh: At this point, he should do what most in this situation refuse to do and apologize before stepping down.

Spoiler

Either that or apply for a position in Trump's cabinet :rip:

Hope these aren’t true. I know it can be hard for people to talk about sexual harrassment, but when you wait ten years to talk about something... it loses a bit of credibility. How accurately are they remembering after all these years?

Memory isn't great, I'm sure if you asked them what they said when they talked to each other there would be some small inconsistencies - but you don't just misremember  being groped, you don't misremember how you felt about an incident.

There hasn't been a time in my life where I've remembered an event and gone "Hmm, wait, did the person I was with grab my ass at a specific moment?" It just hasn't happened... I've never been unsure of that.

On the other hand I remember walking down the shops one day and someone walked past and slapped my butt, because it was a notable event and I remember thinking "Yo... That chick just slapped my butt while she walked past..." That was like five years ago, it wasn't that serious to me, but I remember it

It's not difficult to remember meeting someone and having them grope you or make you feel uncomfortable. On the other hand, it would seem weird to have a false memory of somebody groping you and grabbing at you at a specific moment, because it would seemingly be mismatched with how you originally felt about the meeting.

I'm very disappointed and frankly shocked; Franken had always appeared to be one of the most respectable politicians.

Also, this rape culture has to change. It's a systemic problem that affects all of society on a fundamental level.

Lion Heart

I guess this is how it ends for Al Franken.

Ultimately I think he will resign (because it's the right thing to do), but it will be such a huge slap to the face if he resigns AND Roy Moore is elected Senator and is allowed to stay there.

The Democrats need to be a party built on principles. If the Republicans are rape apologists who will ignore the crimes of Roy Moore then fine! But we shouldn't start doing it too!
