I want to see it too but idk if I'll cringe throughout lol some reviews "ravishingly beautiful movie set in Northern Italy in the early 80s: a coming-of-age love story" "Here's the movie of the year for incurable romantics, a rapturous ode to first love that sweeps you up on waves of dizzying eroticism and then sweetly, emphatically leaves you emotionally shattered. " and from the trailer it's is none of that creepy cringe you were talking about Cause once you let it go you better know it's gone

And from what I've heard, the movie doesn't fall short even a bit. The whole argument about the age difference is is quite ridiculous as well. 7 years isn't that much, especially within the gay community. It's 14 in Italy, I belive. And, no, that is not the case at all. Regarding the gay community, I don't think "big" age gaps should be expected. Considering the pedophilia stereotype placed on gays. Edit: not talking about this instance of course

chromasine 5,439
From the ever trusty Wikipedia: "The age of consent in Italy is 14 years, with a close-in-age exception that allows those aged 13 and older to engage in sexual activity with partners who are under the age of 18, provided that the age gap between them is less than 3 years. The age of consent rises to 16 if one of the participants has some kind of influence on the other (e.g. teacher, tutor, adoptive parent, etc.)." It shouldn't be demonised either - two consenting adults are free to do whatever they want when it comes to sex and relationships - that's it, that's where the conversation should end... It's not anyone's place to bring into question their whole relationship because of their age gap... I used to date men A LOT older than me when I was in my teens, and I can confirm that I was of sound mind and knew what I was doing and don't regret those relationships at all... The only remotely bothersome thing I had to deal with was the flack I got from my friends for it which was unnecessary and annoying It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke! Considering the pedophilia stereotype placed on gays. Edit: not talking about this instance of course The whole thing is bullshit, obviously people don't understand the concept of pedophilia. Big age gaps between adults are ok. As someone said above me, we should not demonize such relationships just because of the ignorance of people. For a young gay men, it's very often that the first other person you meet or see that is like you, is older. Someone who has had the time to be more confortable. That was the case for me as well, and that's ok. Another thing for the movie/book - I haven't heard one bad thing said about this from someone who had actually seen or read it. Not one. It definitely doesn't give off a weird vibe and I would suggest people cheking it out before commenting harshly on it. They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.
TropicOfCANCER 6,292
Eh, it’s just 17. If he was 14 it would absolutely be an issue. In the book, the age difference is never brought up. The book is an absolute masterpiece though—one of the only books I’ve ever read multiple times.
