I feel people hate pipelines too much without considering the whole picture such as how lack of pipelines are just leading to more rail-way and trucking transportation which have their own risks (see Quebecs massive explosion that killed dozens for example). Also more train use for oil is congesting transportation of other important products in some areas! And in the end doesnt really stop oil development anyway cuz the world consumes and for now we need it so it will be produced whether its transported one way or another However this specific pipeline could be more problematic than most because of the important aquafer it goes over Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Pipelines do that sometimes however other forms of transportation have leaks too the difference is spills from trucks or trains happen more frequently but in smaller amounts at a time so they dont get the same kind of news coverage when it does happen Pipeline spills are more rare but when they do happen its a larger spill at once Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

We cant just end pipelines until we can get global demand to drop. We need to transport oil somehow And u may be over estimating their power theyve been trying to build this pipeline for 8 years now and even then the route they wanted was not approved.
