I'll wait for Mediatraffic. Believe it or not Mediatraffic is slightly more reliable than Billboard when it comes to WW sales numbers. They pull WW numbers from anywhere, management, artists' tweets, literally ANYWHERE since they don't have a way to count international sales. There's some articles claiming Rihanna has sold 50 million albums WW. That was before SPS was a thing too.

edit: also, Troy Carter can choke.

The problem with Gaga (or I guess its the exact opposite of a problem if you’re viewing it from an artistic authencity point of view) is that her producers and her label are so far apart in thought processes and just working as one in general. Everything Taylor does is calculated, I’m sure her label is in direct contact with Max and Jack about what themes and sounds they want on the album. Everything Gaga and her producers do in the studio sounds like its going to own radio to them but her marketing/promo people has no input and that alone is the beginning of the “problem”. If Interscope has their foot on Gaga’s neck we all know she just doesnt listen. See: IWBWY —> Dope.

Honestly, it would be helpful if Gaga had somebody in her songwriting camp who had some kind of sense of business sense. Somebody who combines like the best of both worlds and acts as a mediator. It always has been like very "Creative people vs. business people" in Gaga's case and they don't seem to communicate well. While I do think that Gaga is grateful for the artistic freedom that Interscope gives her (to some degree), she also thinks that they basically have actually no clue about the music and making good decisions (and tbh she's actually kind of right, Interscopes singles choices have always been atrocious for Gaga).

I'm not questioning her talent or her ability to write hit songs, I'm questioning Interscope's sense for hits. It's not really that she "needs help" writing music, it's just that I think that her and her label are on two diffrent pages. It's more her label needing an executive with creative/musical background that understands musicians than it is anything else really.

Like... there's no way Judas or Perfect Illusion would have become singles if Interscope had somebody like this tbh. Gaga knew both songs weren't really "smash hits" per se and didn't want them as singles but some delulu exec thought they were. :selena:

It's unbelievable that Younger Now fell out of BB200 after 6 weeks. Nobody would have thought that in 2013.

It's 2017 :emma:

I agree with your point but your examples are kinda weak. Judas is structurally BR 2.0 and has a great beat and dance breakdown. PI was sonically closest to her previous releases, which makes it the label's choice in releasing to bridge the pop-rock and country-folk gap between BTW-ARTPOP and Joanne
