It wouldn't be a good look for the Academy to give the win to a white artist over a black artist for the 3rd year in a row, especially this year when their commercial success was pretty equal and Kendrick's album is much much more critically acclaimed. No album with a metacritic score of 61 has won AOTY in the last 20 years or even more, as far as I know.

There is a lot of other things besides Metacritic score and commercial success and Morning phase by Beck is an example.

Hopefully Melodrama/Rainbow is the Morning Phase of this year's Grammy's 

Btw when the metascore difference is between 61 (Divide) and 95 (DAMN.), then it probably does make a difference between the voters.
