It's 2017 :emma:

I was talking about in 2013 during her Bangerz era nobody would have thought that this would happen with her next album.

I'm not questioning her talent or her ability to write hit songs, I'm questioning Interscope's sense for hits. It's not really that she "needs help" writing music, it's just that I think that her and her label are on two diffrent pages. It's more her label needing an executive with creative/musical background that understands musicians than it is anything else really.

Like... there's no way Judas or Perfect Illusion would have become singles if Interscope had somebody like this tbh. Gaga knew both songs weren't really "smash hits" per se and didn't want them as singles but some delulu exec thought they were. :selena:

Yep interscopes hit senses is not the best :poot:

Although i can understand their reasons behind most singles, Judas is extremly catchy, by redone and sounds similar to bad romance, her biggest hit yet so they prob tryed to recreate that succes along with a very expensive video, but i can't belive nobody told them, singing "i'm love with judas baby" in a very religous country along with an easter release was a bad idea :poot:

Also with PI it's prob the song on joanne most close to her old stuff but i would still prob chosse somehing like A-Yo or DH as a lead over PI.

bey knows whats up

“Beyoncé basically cleaned house, got rid of her whole team, which included her cousin, and hired a new team. She wants to surround herself with business people who could take her career to an even higher level,”

Yeah 2017 really showed that sometimes pop-girls are not save from flopping after a previous succesful era. I am curious who is next. It will happen to almost everyone sooner or later.

that's a reach :poot:

reach??

do you know that Poker Face and Just Dance in top 10 best selling songs in the US?

and Bad Romance like Top15 or 20

clearly she wrote 3 of the biggest hits in HISTORY and immortalized them with Superbowl and those songs will be remembered until the end of the world.

Oh, but i thought you were talking about million reasons :poot:
I was like sure, one of the biggest hits of 2017 in the US but of all time???? :selena::selena:

Those 3 though are def some of the biggest hits in pop history and will be played on radio/shows/movies etc for decades to come.

I agree with your point but your examples are kinda weak. Judas is structurally BR 2.0 and has a great beat and dance breakdown. PI was sonically closest to her previous releases, which makes it the label's choice in releasing to bridge the pop-rock and country-folk gap between BTW-ARTPOP and Joanne

Structure doesn't really matter when the lyrics of the song talk about being in love with the person that caused Jesus Christ's death and you release it on easter. Also the main thing music critics gave lashings for was Judas being a Bad Romance carbon copy (just like people initially gave Bad Romance sh*t for being a Poker Face carbon copy). They've actually been testing their luck with releasing Bad Romance already as the lead, they should have known this was gonna bomb. Trying to recreate a popular sound you have had already done before barely even works once (examples: Focus by Ariana, 24k Magic by Bruno, Dejá Vu by Beyoncé)

In hindsight, A-YO would have done a MUCH better job at closing the gap between Gaga's previous work than Perfect Illusion would have done. It's catchy, up tempo, fun, the single cover was great actually, has the Gaga weirdness (sitar being used through out the song, the lyrics being super tongue-in-cheek) and gives a good glimpse into the more grounded, analog "real instruments" American sound of Joanne. (Don't get me wrong I still think it's one of the best songs Gaga has ever done, it just wasn't a good single choice).

I am somehow conflicted about it. On one side I think it was a good decision for Beyoncé to do it because now she is on a whole other level of success however in recent years I get more and more the feeling that everything she does is extremely calculated with an exaggerated way of self-staging. Thereby this de-humanizes her a lot and she looks unapproachable imho. I don't know if I would like to have that for Gaga.

Ok but Beyoncé's team was also 50% her family (her father was her manager, her mother her stylist, her cousin her assistant). :chica:  Not to mention that it awkward after her parents god divorced and they found out he cheated on her and she had a half-sister from another mother.
