I asked all of my classmates "Did you know that Eminem is releasing an album tomorrow" and all of the responds were : "WHAT? I never know"

Oh my, and that is a proof of that exactly? Give it a rest, Eminem is hugely popular, has a big fanbase, is an icon. I don’t even like his music. We’ve had the same conversation a couple of weeks back. Anyone denying Eminem’s power just bc his recent single flopped is delusional.

What we are gonna find out is that he is releasing an album. The albums success or lack there off won’t change who Eminem is. Just like with Gaga. If she was to release an album that flops, that really would not be able to change who Gaga is and alternate her status.

I have to agree. I mean after PI flopped many people thought that Joanne will have poor debut sales and it ended up being one of the highest 1st week sales for a woman in 2016. Eminem is already an established name in the music industry so he will mostly have very good 1st week sales....

Gaga vs. Eminem is not a good comparison since Gaga is pop and Eminem is rap/hiphop. Hip hop fans are known for being more loyal than gay twinks that can't appreciate talent if the lead single isn't a Bad Romance 3.0 Re-Done produced "bop" most of the time. Gaga ended up doing great album-wise because she had all kinds of audiences backing her up thanks to everything she did in 2015 (C2C, Oscars, National Anthem, Talent etc).

It's a bad symptom that Eminem's comeback lead single did so poorly compared to his previous releases. I think he could still pull decent numbers, but taking into consideration he did turn off half of his fanbase that consisted in white Trump supporters that thought he was a rap god because he isn't black, he could still underperform or do really bad this time around.

Which still wouldn’t change the fact he’s relevant, an icon and hugely successful artist.

But that's irrelevant to what we're discussing and it could go both ways, him being an icon wouldn't change the fact that most people don't know / care he's releasing at midnight.

And if Katy was dragged to hell for cultural appropriation or whatever people felt she was doing wrong and got people into celebrating her poor first week sales, Eminem should be dragged for actually being a misogynist pig several times.
