Why do you need a "reason" for TC performance?

Ever since it was announced that Gaga was going to perform The Cure at the AMAs many people have been saying, "this performance is pointless", "this song is old", "The Cure's momentum is gone", and "The Joanne World Tour doesn't need more promo". But my question to these people is, why do you need a "reason" for Gaga's TC AMA performance? Have you not realized that maybe Gaga just likes to perform and entertain. Or maybe it really is all about the message of hopefulness The Cure has. Have you all become so used to this commercial/popularity mentality that these forums promote, that you think everything Gaga does needs to benefit her in some way?

This. She's doing this performance for US. She knows we love this song. Plus it's her only new song that isn't on joanne. She promoted Joanne last year. This is disgraceful that her OWN fans are complaining about LADY GAGA performing "THE CURE" on live TV.

I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily complaining, at least in my case. I feel that everyone became caught up in the hype everyone caused. And, in turn, we all ended up with blue balls for new music.

I thought the same thing, just be happy she's performing when she really doesn't have to. She probably won't get much of a boost from this performance but she's putting in the extra just to entertain us. 

Anither aspect many don't mention is that we will get professional footage of the JWT stage! Granted The Cure barely utilizes it but still.

AMEN. It's not all about commercial performance. It should be about art and music. I fully support Gaga performing The Cure at AMAs because regardless of charts and sh*t that song is an awesome pop song and it deserves exposure.

I am pretty sure that majority of her fans like it. She can't please everyone all the time.

I think there's actually a chance that Gaga's next album will be more generic then not. DJWS produced The Cure and he's one of the top guys on LG6.

Sure we don't really need a reason for her performance and her management team can do that for her. But I am just disappointed, after what happened in these past few weeks (or MONTHS), after all her Instagram hints, all the DJWS tease and the rumors, I am just expecting something new...

I don't think so, DJWS can be versatile with his production, so it doesn't necessarily have to be like the cure

I obviously cannot speak for everyone, but I do think being a bit skeptical isn't necessarily wrong. First of all, The Cure is one of my favorite Gaga songs. I have no qualms whatsoever with her performing the song, I just personally think it's weird timing. I'm not complaining about it, and I'm glad that she's performing. I mean, any performance from Gaga will get me excited. I just a lot of people are confused.

Gaga isn't the only one making decisions. Interscope and the AMA's have say in this. I mean, unless the performance is utterly terrible—which I'm sure it won't be—it's still good promo for the song and the tour, even though I don't think either really needs it.
