Do y’all realize Denzel and The Rock are the only two men of color that have ever been named sexiest man alive?

They’ve been doing this for 3 goddamn decades.

People, if y’all ran out of sexy white men to award, I can name 50 Black, Latino, and Asian men you could award instead.

He's not my type, but maybe he could be attractive to someone else? :gaycat:

Calling him "Sexiest Man Alive" though, that's just asking for the lols tbh. Like they CAN'T be serious.

Wow, that's some serious payola right there. I can't think of a more blatant case. He's a decently attractive guy but you need to be much more successful and all-encompassing to win that award. Country music isn't even huge anymore, there's many people who don't even know who he is. What makes me think it was paid for was because Adam Levine has won previously and could it be that awarding another The Voice judge is just promo for the show? I mean, the winner is normally a guy who's had an amazing year, getting lots of work, lots of successes. What did Blake do that was so big in 2017? All he's done is released his album last week - which debuted and peaked at #4, with 66k SPS. That's it. If you look through the list, he stands out like a sore thumb as he's the only one who didn't have a highly successful year.

I noticed that as well. Which would be fine if the award was a new thing but I had no idea its been running for 32 years. It's weird because while black women have struggled competing with white standards of beauty, black men seem to be a bit more accepted for their looks, lots of white women find them attractive, there doesn't seem as much stigma somehow. I know when I did my first ever top 10 hottest men, it was a black man at the top. But he was British. Therein lies the problem. People is an American magazine and like most American media, they tend to focus purely on American affairs and what's relevant to Americans only. The award has been won by non-Americans before but only if they're an undeniable force of nature who's famous all over the world (Chris Hemsworth, David Beckham, Hugh Jackman, etc). That's the only way they can possibly win. If the publication looked outside America more often, regardless of levels of success of the man in question, they might have had a more diverse racial archive.
