But let's look at it like this. SOMETHING is definitely coming. Why else would she schedule a national televised performance on an awards show that is broadcast internationally if it wasn't for something? All the trouble she has to go through to interrupt her show, bring cameras in, producers, directors, etc., for a random performance for no reason makes no sense. 

Maybe more tour dates are coming, or maybe there really is a new surprise drop that she'll do a medley with. Whatever it is there's got to be something. If it is more tour dates, either international dates or more US dates, The Cure is obviously the best choice because it resonated with the GP internationally and in the US.

Thinking about it, why on earth did she not decide to perform “Dancing in Circles”? 

It would have been much better promotion for the tour (if that is the idea).

I didn't expect her to perform at all, so this is a pleasant surprise. 

She's keeping herself in the public's (and the GRAMMY VOTERS) consciousness.

The Cure was a hit in the U.S. It wouldn't make sense to perform DIC or some other random song.

She would never perform a new song via a livestream at a tour. Never ever. 

The new music isn't ready yet anyway.

It's an interesting choice but I kinda don't see the point? Other than to promote the tour, but I thought it was mostly sold out in the U.S. anyway.

Also, she's probably winning her category, so they probably asked her to perform her latest single. It could just be as simple as that.

Shawn is also performing a song that was released the same time as The Cure, probably because he's also winning, and neither him nor Gaga have anything more "latest" they could perform at this time.

Honestly I’ll just be glad to see her back on stage doing choreo and a pop track. ALl of her recent award show performance were at the piano or with a guitar or just random running around (Bowie x Grammys and MetalliGa)
