It's only really on the last verse that it truly gets going and becomes highly emotional. I totally get where he's coming from - he's 45 now, he's not as relevant as he used to be, its been 4 years since his last album, he can't sell like the old days, he feels like this is maybe his time to hang it up. A song like this was inevitable. But I still feel like it could have been even more. It feels like a demo at the end of the day, there's something incomplete about it. And does Beyonce have to weasel her way onto other artists songs to keep her name out there? Because she's got a songwriting credit, this will probably partly be seen as her achievement as well when it becomes a hit, which sucks because her part is hardly groundbreaking. If she can do it, I wish Gaga would as well. She's someone who actually needs to keep her name out there and singing the chorus on a rapper or DJ's song is what she needs right now. Would it be a bit of sell-out? Yes, but all the other big names are doing it and she needs the exposure, so why not?

Beyonce sounds good though. She is doing a lot of features lately. I have a feeling she's planning a radio comeback. What she's done this decade is great, but she knows she needs more hit classics. I bet her next album is gonna be the traditional rollout. Which itself is kind of a surprise too lol.

I'm considering this as well. She may think that she was planning long term by getting people to focus on her album as a whole but at the end of the day, almost all those sales came from proper fans, of course they were going to buy her album. The fans (the minority) remember complete albums but the public (the majority) remember the singles. And singles help sell an album. She needs to realise that by not releasing proper singles, she's basically non-existent on radio, she's not as relevant to the younger generation, she won't appeal to those who don't buy full albums or don't use paid streaming services. Singles are the gateway to so many things. With moments of success on other people's songs, she might be realising what she's giving up. The only question is, if 4's singles were any indication (none of them going top ten in the US), can she handle having a bunch of singles from an album that potentially flop again? I think that was the reason she decided to have a non-traditional roll-out in the first place.
