I mean, I LOVED Melodrama, but... 10 years to record 10-12 songs :awkney:

Spoiler

I'm REALLY not the one to talk cuz I'm a VERY slow painter, but... here we are :whitney:

It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

lmao her last album was 4 years ago. does it look like she cares about people remembering her

Yeah, if she didn't care, she wouldn't do that remix of Homemade Dynamite. Do you think she spends thousand and thousands of dollars in making music, just so she doesn't give **** if people buy/like/remember it?

well, she can still put out standalone singles just to keep the buzz going on, but I wouldn't be surprised if she came back in 5 years and smashed even harder.

That is easier said then done. She had even now problems with selling Melodrama, and it is amazing, but imo she took too long to make it. People will forget you, if you are not almost constantly on their screen, sad, but it's the truth. So many stars have struggled with this. Look at Fergie, nobody cares anymore, now imagine Lorde in 10 years. I mean, maybe she could, who knows, but longer you take a break, the harder it gets.

I love Lorde. And I stan. But if I remember her in 10 years after NOTHING, it'll be a miracle. She tried it. No.

Life ain't Hollywood for any one of us.

nonsense... that's just over-dramatic behavior, just like artists who are dramatically "quitting music", and then release an album next year.

The only person that I remember saying they would take a long break from music and actually did it is Justin Timberlake :emma:

Yeah and he should have taken a longer one :stalkga:

Remember in 2012 or 2013 when Lana said she'd quit making music and only make songs for cinemas and movies? :smh:

Remember Gaga said she'd take a break? :ladyhaha:

I doubt she'd take that long. Regardless of the success of Green Light, it was in actuality a niche hit. Royals has been her only big hit worldwide and I doubt her style is going to be clamoured after in years to come. She was lucky to get success in the first place because her music wasn't the popular trend at the time. She got her big hit because she was different and has used that as the springboard to have a career but it's questionable how long she can continue to have any level of success with it. Taking this long to release Melodrama was already a mistake and because this time didn't garner any mega hits or mega sales, she's going to take an even bigger risk waiting longer in future. The music business is tough. You don't get into it and then treat it like a hobby, something you only do when you're in the mood. Being any kind of artist is a full-time profession and you always have to be creating whether you're happy or sad, busy or relaxed, rich or poor. Even if it doesn't actually get released. When you stop doing it, your creativity diminishes and it's hard to get it back. That's why comeback albums after decade long hiatuses and suchlike are usually never as good at the stuff at the beginning.

Being said that, a lot of artists say stuff like this. I remember Lana saying she wanted to quit music and has released 2 albums in less than 3 years since she said that.

True, it can be a case of over-dramatics. I sometimes think they say it just to get their fans worried and make them appreciate them again, particularly if they've had a lesser successful era. Yeah, I got afraid that Lana was genuinely going to give it up back then but she's released 3 albums since then (she actually said that quote about wanting to quit and write for film back when Born To Die was being re-released) so I'm glad she's had a change of heart. Marina and the Diamonds has been saying she's going to quit as well. Other artists also say that they're taking a break and then they put out another album 2 years later. "Taking a break" is pretty meaningless in the business. It pretty much just means "I'm not putting out an album next year," no more or less.
