Edibles, vapes, oils, and topical products are growing every year, and are not seen as dangerous at all. I don't think things like edibles or soft drinks are a danger, you will not overdose from marijuana. Though some people will have bad highs, they are not in danger when compared to a person who has had too much to drink. For me personally it is definitely more comforting to know that someone I love would turn to marijuana rather than alcohol when feeling like they needed an out. I'd rather see more discussions on mental health and how the government isn't focusing on it enough for Canadians. I feel too many people are focused on tearing down behaviors that could've been treated early on if voters and the government cared enough for mental health. Those who rely on a relaxant or a high are most likely struggling and could use help, but often can't afford it or is not getting the care they are supposed to. In my mind, marijuana isn't a danger at all, its the health and development of people that is the real issue. I know it doesnt only work if u smoke it. And in some circumstances im fine with it i just dont like the idea of people recreationally smoking it just for fun. I mean we worked so hard to get number of tabbacco smokers down and now were gonna re-introduce something else as legal? Like why? Yes it has benefits for anxiety and whatnot but then i think it should be medically controlled by a doctor for such use... not encouraged for people to self-medicate with it uncontrolably if that makes sense

Seeing that it helps with a wide variety of illnesses...including seizure disorders that were previously uncontrollable, depression, anxiety, PTSD, Cancer pain and nausea, and all types of chronic pain without the severe side effects of prescription drugs....I think the positives FAR outweigh the negatives! In some circumstances yes. Im not saying theres no place for it. But even for medical reasons u mentioned, i think it would be better to have it available as a tratment and controlled by doctor rather than just letting people self-medicate with as much as they want! And again, i was talking about recreational use for the hell of it. What ur talking about is different, ur talking about using it fir some medical benefits

First of all weed may have long lasting effects too. Is it worse? Not necessairily, depends on the medication were comparing it too But heres a big difference Prescription meds are controlled doses. In addition often mental health treatments include counselling Sessions and stuff so your not relying ONLY on meds but can also do practicle things to help Legalizing pot the way people want it would allow u to self-medicate without needing doctor control or supervision... u may choose not to seek counselling which helps in addition to meds ppl who substance use just like alcohol will often rely only on that substance and go downhill So I stand by my opinion. Its NOT THE BEST WAY! Now if the Government legalizes it as a controlled form of treatment for patients with anxiety with medical supervision then im fine with it But the legalization people want is free unlimited unrestrictive access. U wanna seriously tell me thats the best long term way to deal with anxiety or depression? Really???

U wanna seriously tell me thats the best long term way to deal with anxiety or depression? Really??? Prescription meds are "controlled", but Doctors still use a trial and error approach. It can take months, or even years, to find the right medicine, the right combination and the right dosage. Meanwhile, you have put your body through various side effects...some which may not be reversible. Nothing says you can't do counseling while you use marijuana medically. You can do both, just like you can do with prescription drugs. By the same token, some people take prescription meds and don't go see a therapist. One isn't required for the other. That may be the best way for you, but that doesn't mean that everyone else is going to follow your path. Most people who drink do so socially and are not raging alcoholics. The same can hold true for recreational marijuana usage. Yes, I'm going to tell you that marijuana is being used successfully medically for cases of PTSD in returning soilders, severe anxiety disorders and even depression in the elderly...tough cases where prescription drugs were actually proving to be dangerous. It may not be the medicine for everyone, but for some individuals and for some cases, it is an answer to an unremitting illness.

U go to doctor for meds they will push u to do the counselling and pressure u. I know cuz ive done it... Technically u can refuse and im sure many do... But the number of people who will end up not doing it if they self medicate is much higher. Also long term damage rarely happens from trial and error. Being on meds a few weeks or months rarely will its more with long term use of the dame drug. That is a problem for either pot or another drug Anyway back to my main argument... regardless of counselling or long term affects... prescription meds are STILL medically supervised... If marijuana becomes available for people to just take it to self medicate... it can become too easy to take too much of it or to rely too mich on it as there is no one holding u back We can agree to disagree For medical purposes... i believe it should be available but controlled just like other drugs... I dont think what ur suggesting is really a better medical option. U essentially give people a way to deal with it with a substance without doctors if they choose. THAT IS NOT GOOD! Thats what alcoholics often do. In principal, even if its not quite as addictive as alcohol, it no doubt can still be destructive to a large extent with controlled meds, if u need a higher dosage, if ur still not well, it forces u to discuss it with ur doctor!!!!! This wont happen with most people if ppl can just buy as much as they want! Even the more mild less strong anxiety meds are not sold over-counter and with good reason. I dont think pot should be any different!
Economy 53,166
@Whispering i cant seem to edit my comment i also wanted so say... I dont disagree with most of what ur saying in case it comes across that way. I think pot has a lot of potential good in these aspects I just think it would be better tho if just like other drugs it had medical supervision and some level of control just so individuals dont over do it or over-depend on the substance Mental illness ideally should have regular attention and involving the doctor is best. Have something available for ppl to have as much as they want and they may more easily decide they dont need or want a doctor

I dont think pot should be any different! No, they don't. They write out a Prescription. Maybe it's different in Canada? Remember, everything costs here in the US! What? What do you mean refuse? A doctor isn't going to try to push you to do therapy. Most are pill pushers. Incorrect. You can develop all sorts of long term problems from short term meds. I did from an antibiotic I took. It took me months to get over it. Later it became a drug with a black box warning. I know others who have developed tics, joint pain, ulcers or other chronic conditions from certain medications. Just because something is a prescription drug doesn't mean it doesn't come with a long list of side effects...some that can hang around for awhile. Well, what I was discussing was medical benefits, so yes...that's correct. I'm confused about your line of reasoning in general here.

Here most doctors push some counselling classes and phychological help so ur not relying only on meds alone. In fact the standard i was taught is that treatment should be 33% counselling classes to teach u how to deal, 33% lifestyle adjustments, and only 33% should be meds And lets say for the sake of argument all these meds are so much more terrible in everyway than pot for side effects... still i dont see whats wrong with my view It could still be controlled and prescribed to make sure its being used correctly and in controlled doses etc. It can be used but with medical attention if medical treatment and benefits is the purpose were discussing. Most People who want pot to get special treatment from other drugs and be completely unrestricted I think do so more because deep inside they just want to be free to use it recreationally and dont wanna admit it If thats the case just say so. Dont try to give me medical arguments if thats the case cuz i dont get why u wouldnt want medical overview for this specifically and just let ppl medicate on as much as they want. If were still talking about medical treatment and were still talking about a drug with side effects even if it isnt the worst out there. Then If other drugs are controlled theres no reason why from a medical standpoint this should get special treatment!

I'm for medical marijuana for all ages, meaning prescribed and controlled by a doctor. I'm also for adults being given the right to use marijuana like they use alcohol. Cigaretts are so bad for u and its been such a struggle to get the number of people who smoke down which is why i wouldnt want yet another vice to be so freely accesible or encouraged Alcohol im not quite as against in moderation as cigarets because cigarets are more addictive in small amounts than alcohol. Also some alcohol such as red wine even has health benefits such as anti-oxidants and anti-aging properties if not over-done However when abused alcohol is terrible for u too. It would be hard to control it now tho because culturally people have access to have as much as they want and u can get it in bars, stores, restaurants and theres no way to truly control people from becoming alcoholics If weed becomes easily available and easily accessible, in time it would become like alcohol... would culturally be too difficult to put back controls on it and it just wouldnt happen Thats why id prefer it remain controlled and only for medical reasons... The moment u make it easy and legal theres no going back Of course... i get that it being illegal doesnt stop many from getting it... but to some extent it holds many back. Its just not a healthy thing some Countries (mine included) are banning trans fats, putting ever higher taxes on ciggarrets to get people to stop smoking and all these things to inprove health... so why the heck add another substance to be more easily accessible to recreationally abuse? Makes no sense to me
