There is alot of good songs on both melodrama/rainbow that are not singels so it definitely deserved. But i agree that gagas work have way worse scores on those critic sites then it should have. But many of them have something against gaga and critic gaga the person and not the music :madge:

Exactly :golfclap:

Like as I said these albums have some good songs but critically acclaimed while some artists like Gaga not !

All the albums you mentioned tell personal stories that are immediately obvious on first listen and connect directly to the listener unlike any of Gaga’s albums. I wouldn’t be on here if I didn’t think Gaga’s music was out of this world but let’s not act like the majority of her music has any real meaning unless you go out of your way to hear her commentary on it.

Lol you need commentary for BTW where every song is described by it's title and so obvious yet still a masterpiece. Yeah Gaga is talented and these girls are not even close but then why are those ones hyped.

Born This Way does contain some of her best and most personal writing however they talk at the listener rather than letting them into her life for the most part, and a lot of the songs again are formulaic vague pop. For example, The Edge Of Glory is a really touching song when you know her inspiration behind it but it’s not immediately apparent unless you search for it.

Whether we like it or not a resounding critical comment about Gaga is that she has a very avant garde image and is very musically talented however her music is just your run of the mill pop song.

Joanne disrupted this a little, and I’m not sure why it got the reception it did. Probably because people tend to like something less if they were anticipating something else, like how people were heavily anticipating a pop album.

Nobody expected an album full of bangers from kesha, and lorde/lana also delivered within the expected sounds they usually give, so critics focused on the actual content more than being caught off guard by a giant career shift.

Lorde is just a critics darling, she really can't do no wrong in music editors eyes (even if she would have put out a 50 minute album of her farting).

Kesha is like the underdog everybody is rooting for (because they deserve it) and managed to put out a great album.

Lana kind of built her base as critics darling with Ultraviolence because people expected her to go full pop/commercial but she did the opposite, which made those straight white music journalists cream their pants (her voicing negative opinions on feminism in 2014 - that she now regrets - also helped establish her status as like one of the few token "real music" women among straight dudes)

Gaga has always been unabashadly pop & commercial and extremely opinionated towards music journalists and isn't afraid of calling them out on their bullsh*t. Also, there are LOTS of old Madonna fans who are music journalists who just give sour reviews on default. That's why she has publications who continously give her bad/mediocre reviews on her music, no matter what. LA Times, New York Times, PopMatters, Q Magazine, The Observer, The Independant, The Guardian specifically for example.

So we get that most critics are a punch of Oldies who grew up listening to slow music and the vocalists era blah blah

Honey Gaga's fibromyalgia is a better vocalist than all of those 3 combined and multiplied by infinity. Slow doesn't mean good vocal.

Have you ever heard this?

lmao who cares what critics say, if you like it well then you like it. Lust For Life is the best release of 2017 tho :tony:

It's not only about how slow or fast a song is or how it sounds, it's about the lyrical content :saladga: The same reason the big loud action films don't get much critical praise because the smaller thoughtful or meaningful films are better quality.
