She said they were part of her earlier work, and she was excited to leak those tracks slowly into the world. Heavier guitars, glam, groans, John Lennon melodies, 50's, 70’s, very dramatic, where she sounds like crying in pain. Or something along those lines, I don’t remember the full, exact description. Also, that one track she described as a complextro masterpiece, back when she frequented littlemonster.com, it was supposed to be on ARTPOP volume 2, I believe. In before it’s Aura and that was her take on complextro. That’s Sofi Tukker, mate. Thank you
littlepotter 75,142
lana was not always critically acclaimed oh no henny. btd was ARTPOP level dragged (61), paradise 64, ultraviolence 74, and her last 2 albums 78. she kept growing and evolving while sticking to her sound. if you have some sort of attention deficit don't blame lana and the critics also tfm was very well received. did you even do your research? chaeri pls

Pick some of her weaker lyrics to represent her entire discography’s lyrical contents? “You took a Polaroid of us Then discovered (then discovered) The rest of the world was black and white But we were in screaming color” “Remember when you hit the brakes too soon Twenty stitches in a hospital room When you started crying Baby, I did too But when the sun came up I was looking at you Remember when we couldn't take the heat I walked out, I said, I'm setting you free But the monsters turned out to be just trees When the sun came up You were looking at me You were looking at me Oh! You were looking at me. Are we out of the woods yet?”

StrawberryBlond 14,862
You've actually made a big misconception when you say that critics only like slow music from supreme vocalists. Plenty of critics praise uptempo albums from artists who can't sing. Trust me, in being an amateur reviewer, I've studied the trends of how critics review and can confirm that this idea of them being a bunch of stuffy conservatives types who can't accept non-conformists isn't really accurate. I was just saying yesterday that critics go with public opinion more than anything else. Good performing singles pre-album = good review, bad performing singles pre-album = mixed/negative review. Unless it's by a very highly acclaimed pretentious indie type, then it'll get praised even if it doesn't sell. But by in large, critics follow the herd because they don't want to look like fools in the eyes of the public by not agreeing with their tastes. Certain publications (teen and gossip magazines, mainly) will not allow their reviewers to give anything less than 3/5 stars. And there's definitely an element of bribery for good reviews as well, as there is throughout the arts. It's a shallow, fake business and it's ultimately why I decided not to pursue it professionally. Ain't nobody dictating or censoring my views on music. Or else these artists and their labels will never learn how to make quality because they're just used to endless praise. But anyway, all the albums you listed were good, subjectively speaking, of course. Naturally, I think Lana's was amazing especially. We think they're amazing because the beats and lyrics are wonderful and much deeper than other music around right now. I never liked Lorde before but Melodrama is more of a developed turn for her. Kesha's going through a lot right now and her music moves me for that, Rainbow is a joy to hear because it's the sound of an artist finally spreading her wings and making the music she wants. Lana's music has never put me to sleep because I'm so focused on her amazing production and lyricism - if it's making you fall asleep, you're not paying attention. What puts me to sleep is mediocre music with nothing interesting in it. And Lana really struggled to get critical reception at the beginning (Born To Die literally might be the definition of a mixed critical reception) because the critics initially believed the public's perception that she wasn't "real" and they're always far harder on female artists for this perception than males. You'll notice that a lot of their reviews focused on how she was a millionaire's daughter and (incorrectly) assuming that she had therefore been bought a record contract courtesy of daddy's money. They also accused her of being the result of manufactured label creation. I just don't get how a woman who writes all her own music (sometimes near exclusively her, at that) could have such accusations thrown at her. The sexism was astonishing. Thankfully, I think, with time, critics regretted it and realised she was real and gave her music a fair chance in response.
yes 561
You're entitled to your wrong opinion, I guess. (Except for Lana. I agree with you on that one.)
Doot 2
I think a better question is why others opinion is something affects you. If the entire world hated Gaga, would that make you hate her too?

Mr S 8,672
Melodrama is the best pop album this year, and Lorde is one of the best songwriters out there. She honestly deserves a 100 on metacritic. I find Lana De Ray boring, can't get into her. Kesha is only acclaimed because of the story. It is a good album, but nothing special really.
