Canada plans to accept over 1 million immigrants over next 3 years by raising annual immigration to 340,000 a year. Some in the Government want an even higher number of 450,000 a year but for the moment that has not been approved

60% will be economical immigrants with needed skills and education. The other 40% will be family reunification and refugees

Nearly half the population already was born outside Canada, or has parents who were.

However some experts think raising a number that is already high even higher could severely strain an already tight housing market and the increased infrastructure spending could still prove insufficient to keep up

Proportionally speaking to size of population this is over triple the rate of US immigration but...

i think it will help aging population issue despite the housing shortage problem

Do we know which places are the most common locations that foreigners are immigrating to? I know Vancouver and Toronto would be large draws, but anything unexpected like Saskatoon or Halifax?

Absolutely. Our population is aging and we don't "produce" as much as in the 1940-1950s.

Spoiler

Who want to live in the US anyway :reductive:

Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary are top spots

Many other areas of the praries have seen increased numbers in last few years tho

Here in Toronto area population grows over 100,000 a year. My suburb city alone (Brampton) grows some 20,000 a year :air:

every year i see land that used to be farm land last year all homes being built

and i drive to Toronto and its one skuscrapper condo after the other under construction :duck:

Aging population is the biggest for argument

i still think old age security and retirement needs a small increase woth baby boomers and 84 year life expectancy

system wasnt designed for so much strain and immigration will help but that alone wont fix it!

Whispering

If sixty percent are people with needed skills and education, they will help stimulate the economy. New housing will have to be built in new areas or suburbs, so that will also stimulate the economy.

You should get into construction or real estate! Lol

All these people will need food, clothing, services, cars, etc. They will go out to eat and want entertainment sources. That's more money in the economy and more taxes for the aging population.

Honestly, Canada should start more house-boats. There are so many lakes, it'd be amazing.
