In Canada it's becoming law that you can get prosecuted for using someone's "incorrect pronoun".

and that should be a law, it should be considered a hate crime to purposely use a trans persons previous pronoun. i feel like if someone kept calling you "he" or "him" on purpose just to annoy you or make you feel bad about being trans, you would be upset

it sure as hell beats gay marriage becoming illegal again

also aren't you american?

1. BS. It rebounded. Obama saved us from a depression.

I disagree, I'm sorry.

I pass as a biological woman and I don't plan on joining the military, trans laws don't affect me.

I don't want to discuss that, it's personal, but I can tell you I wasn't leeching off the government.

i'm going to also add that the left is more compassionate and capable of empathy. to say having obamacare is to leech off the government is mean

WHAT

Are you serious? Where does this end? I disagree vehemently. Of course I'd be a little upset but that's life. I feel disgusted by this, actually.

You were if you didn't have insurance through a full time job...which you didn't have. You were leeching off of the government. Unless you are working a full time job, and paying for an employee based insurance program...you are leeching off of the government.

My boyfriend paid for all of my medical expenses.

They say that...as they use it. Then, they will complain when it gets taken away.

so you think people should go unpunished if they decide to bully trans people by calling "him" when they identify as "her" on purpose? i'm confused...

you're acting like that canadian law (one that doesn't even affect you since you don't live there) is an awful thing to happen when all people have to do is use correct pronouns  like, you have to REALLY twist that to find a problem with it and i mean, you sound like you have it twisted to a point where it seems like you instantly get thrown into jail for saying the wrong thing

Oh, so if you refuse to call someone "Xirpocalypto" you can get prosecuted now. How nice.

I don't have to twist anything to find a problem with it. You REALLY don't see the problem? Are you serious? Imagine if the right wing made a law like this. It's a violation of free speech. Am I in The Twilight Zone here?

So, your Dad doesn't have insurance? Even if he is on Medicaid, you would have insurance. What happens if you are in an automobile accident? Who pays for your bills then?

I'm not under his insurance. Yeah, I'm in a little bit of a rough spot because I don't have a job at the moment, but that's my responsibility and my problem.

you've absolutely twisted it into a fantasy case :toofunny:

this law is obviously protecting what i'm describing in my comments so continue to ignore that, i guess

if the right wing made a law protecting a minority group who experience a high level of violence and bullying, i think i'd faint in shock

purposely calling trans people their undesired pronouns to mock them is NOT FREE SPEECH, it's bullying which should be made illegal, idk why you're finding that so hard to process

all you have to do is call someone he/she/they went he/she/they wants to, it's not a difficult concept

Oh please, it's not like people will sue anyone in the street who doesn't say their pronoun correctly (which also applies to like what 0.003% of the population?).

The bill does two things: adds gender identity/expression as protected classes under the Canadian Human Rights Act + adds gender identity or expression as protected classes to the criminal code, specifically to a section about hate propaganda

Regarding the Canadian Human Rights Act, there has to be an actual discriminatory act (such as refusing housing or services). Using a wrong pronoun wouldn't be enough.

Regarding the criminal code and the hate propaganda, one has to actually, intentionally, incite hatred or promote genocide. misusing pronouns is not what this article is about.
