Woah, that was a lot of leaps. I'm just saying that it's justifiable because she's a black woman and there's plenty of black females that could also do this justice who may not have a chance next to their white counterparts. So if they were upset, I could see why. I literally never said anything else. I never said I had a problem with XTina performing, never said I was bothered by Gaga, nothing (though, that situation is different as a number of artists performed that night). Hearing from others that XTina can still vocally do this, I'm happy to hear it. Whitney deserves a good tribute and if this is it then I'm happy for it. On a personal level, I don't really care. I was just saying if someone were to be upset that a woman of color who beat all odds to be at the top was not honored by someone of color thus giving them a chance to shine then I can see why they'd be upset. I mean, when there's a special network devoted to black entertainment, then yes, race is relevant.

Please don't lash out and be so unnecessarily rude towards me when I was nothing but civil in my response.

I wasn’t rude. I literally threw questions at you to see what was going on. I guess you were pretty angry when Darius Rucker honored Garth Brooks, when there were plenty of good white country singers who could do it.

Race doesn’t have to be brought into every single conversation. They picked Christina solely on talent. They know she has the pipes. Now... that being said, if we were using the same argument about the Madonna/Prince tribute- I would probably give the argument more validity.

The manner with which you asked said questions came off as rude. I could have misinterpreted your intent behind them, but they came off incredibly aggressively.

No, I wasn't angry because you don't need to prop up white people for recognition, they are already advantaged by being white in the mainstream. But also like I said previously, I don't actually care. As I said, I can see where someone of the black community would be pissed, not that I am. Like, I can see tweets coming and I can see what their reasoning would be. I personally don't care that much about it, though; there's bigger fish to fry than who's doing what tribute show.

I was also not privy to Christina's current skills. I had previously heard she had lost some of her vocal ability so I asked a general question as to whether or not she was capable in the eyes of everyone here of doing a tribute for one of the best vocalists in recent memory or if she was picked for the name recognition. I was genuinely curious as I don't follow her in the least.

The Madonna-Prince tribute was plain dumb all-around since they're such vastly different artists. I mean, he was a supremely talented musician and showman, Madonna, is also quite talented, but in a vastly different manner. Prince has more of a rock and roll vibe about his artistry whereas Madonna forged modern pop music. That was just a clunky odd choice all together. They should have had Janelle Monae. She's a lot more like him artistically and he loved her which is saying something since he was mean to most people lol

She's improved a bit from that bad period she had where her voice was going right down the tubes, so it's better that she do this tribute now rather than a few years ago. But I just feel like she's already done a Whitney hologram performance so how many more does she need? She needs to give her own music career priority again. It seems like she just lives for features and covers these days and they're occasional at that. There was a time Christina performed her lead singles at award shows, now she uses them to just to remind people that she's still around. It's sad she's reached this level when she's still only in her 30's.

Also, I can already hear the (justifiable) calls in the distance of people mad they aren't getting a black woman to do this.

Christina is likely being asked because she's got a certain level of fame and is still regarded as one of the big diva singers, that's just how these things work. It's usually the biggest names who get asked to do tributes to pull in ratings. It's superficial, but that's the way it works. To me, I don't care about the race or even the gender of someone doing a tribute, I just want them to be a fan, to have a good voice and do the renditions in a way that the artist would have been proud of. A tribute act usually attempts to look like the person who's songs they're singing but someone being asked to do a one-off tribute is a very different thing and looks really don't come into it. If Gaga died, I would just want someone who liked her, with a good voice who could do her songs proud to do a tribute, I wouldn't care if they weren't white or were male. Tributes aren't about becoming the person, it's about paying homage. Plenty of black artists are being bigged up in the industry and are given lots of promo and opportunities. Rap, hip hop and RnB have made the biggest comebacks and its black artists are being given accolades for this. We need to stop exaggerating by acting like they're completely absent from primetime because they're not. At the most recent MTV awards, 10 of the performers were black or mixed-race. 21+ (don't know the race of some of them) Grammy performers this year were black or mixed race. To say they don't get opportunities just isn't accurate. Plenty of black women have sang Whitney songs on all the most watched episodes of American Idol, The Voice and suchlike. It's hardly like they've never been given a chance to sing her songs for a big crowd.
