Americano 31,061
Certifications Update WASHINGTONâ€â€Many of music’s top artists such as The Black Eyed Peas, Gotye, Nicki Minaj and Carrie Underwood earned outstanding Gold & Platinum awards in June, as unveiled today in the Recording Industry Association of America’s newest monthly certifications PDF, posted exclusively to the RIAA’s brand new G&P Facebook page (www.facebook.com/GoldandPlatinum). Fans are encouraged to “Like†the page to receive breaking artist award news, plaque presentation photos, certification-inspired playlists, a historical timeline dating back to the program’s 1958 launch, opportunities to win prizes like personalized G&P plaques and more. Check it out! Celebrations were in order in June when The Black Eyed Peas earned the G&P Program’s highest digital single award EVER upon certifying Interscope track “I Gotta Feeling†8x multi-Platinum. As a group, The Peas currently have more digital singles certified than any other band: 22 million. Gotye also set a G&P record in June, becoming the first artist to release and certify a digital song 5x multi-Platinum in less than six months! We all know well which track it was: “Somebody That I Used To Know.†Go Gotye! Certifiably popular songstresses Nicki Minaj and Carrie Underwood upped their album award ante in June. Nicki earned her second Platinum for “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded†(Universal Republic), while Carrie received her fourth Gold for “Blown Away†(19 Recordings Limited/Arista Nashville). “Whitney: The Greatest Hits†captured June’s top album award: a 5x multi-Platinum recognizing more than five million purchases of Houston’s 2000 Arista release. Having certified more than 57 million album sales, Whitney Houston is one of the most certified (not to mention cherished!) musicians in G&P history. Evoking an often defining moment in an artist’s career, several supremely talented musicians earned their very first RIAA Gold or Platinum awards in June: EMI Nashville crooner Eric Church and Universal Republic rock stars Florence + The Machine earned premiere Platinum album plaques for selling more than one million copies of their respective records “Chief†and “Lungs.†First Platinum song certifications were awarded to country artists Lee Brice, Eric Church and Kip Moore, plus pop rockers Karmin and The Wanted, for their respective hot hits “A Woman Like You,†“Springsteen,†“Somethin’ ‘Bout A Truck,†“Brokenhearted†and “Glad You Came.†Three golden acts received their first Gold single awards: Atlantic solo singer Hunter Hayes for “Wanted,†electronic band M83 for “Midnight City†and X Factor UK judge Nicole Scherzinger for “Right There.†RIAA’s full June certifications PDF can be accessed at www.facebook.com/GoldandPlatinum. RIAA awarded 61 digital single and 12 album certifications in June. All certifications are calculated by Gelfand, Rennert & Feldman. Complete lists of all album, single, mastertone and video awards can also be accessed at www.riaa.com. Edited July 13, 2012 by Americano

Nagini 179
Yesterday Justin Bieber's 2nd single was #72. It's #66 now. Hit in the making? Thoughts? His fans are all raging fangirls and some of them are turning to One Direction. If he has some good promo, killer video, I guess it'll do well (Top 20). Radio doesn't really support him so I don't think he'll have a "smash" like Boyfriend (#2). Even if he does hit the top 10, I don't think he'll be near Top 5. Klou 2,414
The Wanted and Kelly were in the top 10 way longer than they should have been due to the new Billboard rules and slow descent of radio. I remember Kelly being 35+ on iTunes, but still in top 10! I think Billboard needs to not be stubborn and realize their new system sucks. Sales' impact should have been adjusted, I agree, but it's leaning just too far in favor of radio.
Arturo 40,746
I really wish that radio didn't count as much on BB. The fact that it takes so long for radio hits to die makes the top 10 seem unmovable and boring.
Klou 2,414
I really wish that radio didn't count as much on BB. The fact that it takes so long for radio hits to die makes the top 10 seem unmovable and boring. Yeah it's definitely boring. I feel bad for songs like Back In Time that couldn't break top 10, but clearly deserved so. It was in the top 10 on iTunes for a long time, but the new rules prevented it from ever cracking top 10 on Hot 100. I don't like the song, but can't deny it completely got the shaft.
