55% of white people think America discriminates against them

I partly agree. The bolded is definitely true, but the right definitely tries to do this by fear mongering, placing the blame on minorities, PoC, etc. and appealing to people's biases and ignorance (as well as literal lack of education/critical thinking skills). The real joke however though is that (In America) the right actually makes efforts that hard the middle class constantly legislation wise, under the guise of "less government interference". They foster a wider socioeconomic divide, and less communitiy, diversity, and education because without those things, people remain uninformed about how to actually affect change for themselves  Meanwhile the rich get richer,  the privileged remain in power, and the majority become more and more disenfranchised, but especially minorities and PoC.

It is sad that populist movements (or even fringe movements on places like the internet) appeal to people's fears and biases in such an effective way (because white people are still very much the majority), BUT when these movements are founded upon hatred and bigotry towards minorities primarily, can you not see the huge irony in trying to appease white people for fears that are mostly unfounded?  

Like, minorities, scholars, legal scholars, etc.  have studied discrimination, oppression, etc. for a very long time and traced its origins in history, the signs of it, etc. and white people (that are indirectly or directly causing most of the discrimination against minorities, PoC, women, etc.) claim that they are just as if not more discriminated against.... And all because the people that are trying to look out for more than just the white person dare to be explicit about that  That's absolutely infuriating.

Obviously people of all races have problems, but centering the discussion on the feelings of white people who have demonstrably less pressing issues than other groups of people is hella problematic. Their feelings shouldn't be dismissed, but rather it's appropriate to say that somethings this just isn't about them, or for them really

Personally, when I meet middle-lower class white people that go on Facebook talking about Liberal Snowflakes and PC culture being a disease destroying the nation, and that Trump is saving us from these things, I just feel pity, because these people are trading being able to be openly bigoted and ignorant for actual societal progress for the entire country and they are none the wiser. In the case of Trump, hes shown himself capable of causing damage that could take decades to undo in his short amount of time and diminished our national reputation and the potential health of our partnerships with foreign countries globally, not to mention him simply not caring about things like science and Global Warming  But Liberals are getting what they deserve, so

The problem sits with an ineffective left leaning government though.  There was a really good article on Brexit and why the poorer parts of the U.K. voted to leave and actually told the story of one woman who voted to leave.  She basically said how could she even think to vote remain when the campaign said "things are great, you're gambling on uncertainty and could lose everything" and then she looked around her empty council flat and at her hungry kids... would you vote for the person or movement that promises change or the person who knocks on your door and says it will stay the same?

I'm lucky in many ways.  I'm working class but I live in the city and I've never had a problem with getting work, I've worked since I was fourteen and held down a job since then apart from one month last year... I'm twenty two now  If I was in one of the parts of the country that have been left behind though and work is hard to come by, I could see myself voting for someone who promises me to bring industry back to my area and make things better for me.  I mean, who wouldn't?  You can tell the difference in opportunity by looking at what areas voted for, my city and surrounding areas voted to remain but you start creeping up to the quieter parts of the country and it's overwhelmingly leave.

I am white, as some already know or can tell.

I haven't ever experienced institutional bias personally.   

I know that for many African Americans, it's prevelent.

So I can understand the disgust that many feel when an article like this is posted.

 However, there is a group of well to do POC who also have had difficulty regardless of their economic station....I am interested to hear from that group as the larger poorer group clearly want change.

 

Also, those white's who feel like they've been discriminated against haven't read much about American history or they would not equate their problems to those who have.
