The title, the poll, and the term 'discrimination' are super generalized...

This kind of poll an news article only fans the flames of separatism in my opinion.

1.  what about the economic level of the pollee's ???

I think that all races and people in the lower income brackets would 'feel' discriminated against..

2. White People .... which ones????

3.  What kind of discrimination, ?  food service, check out lines, job placement, admittance to schools???

You could say that 100 percent of the people in the U.S. don't have enough money....

pffffssssttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you even open the link? Because most of what you stated is part of the poll.

On behalf of all white people, I am sorry. For the entirety of our existence on this planet, we have been an entitled embarrassment, and apparently we also don't learn from our mistakes.

you're taking this too far

Whether you're white, black, yellow or grey... if you're working class it's VERY easy to feel discriminated against, hence why we've seen the right making a rise because they promise to change it.

I find it bizarre people are so quick to dismiss people just because their white when it comes to struggles.

Okay, this makes sense for some instances but not in this scenario. Think of it like this. What if they conducted a poll about how many US citizens love ARTPOP. If you poll a majority of people on this site, then I'm sure the numbers would be very high. With your logic, we can just expand those numbers to the whole US population because we used "science". The problem with polls like this is that we don't know the people being interviewed, where they came from, what's important to them, etc. Therefore, it is irresponsible to apply the thoughts and opinions of the few to the many. Thank you

Yeah of course.. every city, state, race, education level, age, political affiliation, gender, sexual orientation, income level, wealth level, etc. is different. That's why they account for all of these factors

In this site you have a lot of gays and young people, which means that liberal views will be overrepresented. Less than 10% of LGBT voted for Trump. That's why you poll a lot of people and adjust for all of these characteristics to make sure you interview a part of the population that is representative for the population as a whole. And yeah, there's some errors here and there especially with smaller polling agencies and such (e.g. if it's all done by landline, lower income, minority and young people are underrepresented). But the most professional polling agencies also adjust for that. And even then, these small errors are the reason that there's a margin of error of a few %. So maybe they accidentally polled too many people who agree with the statement, for that case we have a margin of error that means that the result could be 50-55% too. But if you'd ask other professional research centres to ask the same question to another 500 people, you'd get the same result taking into account the margin of error.

Because it's what they think? :rip:

Literally the basis of the question.

Not really. If a poll surveying women and 1/4 women reported sexual assault, you wouldn't title the article "1/4 women think they've been sexually assaulted" would you? all im saying putting "think" in front of it is stupid euphemism as if they're data is wrong or whatever

Actually they were asked if they THINK discrimination exists and THEN were asked if they’d experienced it and in which scenarios.

So no it’s not similar to a question about sexual assault AT ALL.

this ^^

people who are disenfranchised, ignored largely by politics/media look to populist movements because they feel someone is batting for them.

if you dismiss people's issues constantly and belittle them they eventually snap and the loudest way they can do that is by protest voting en masse, happened with Brexit, Trump and all the European countries like France and Germany who have flirted with right wing parties/candidates recently.

sad state we're in, starting with minorities feeling (rightly) sidelined and ending with the silent majority feeling like they have no voice because their issues have been deemed lesser.

all issues should be taken seriously and all communities deserve respect from everyone else.

yes there are huge varying shades of severity in the issues people face but truly poverty and disillusionment knows no race/sexuality/religion/creed so we should tackle it head on at every opportunity.

Of course I can. It was first implemented in law to repudiate racial inequalities in America by discriminating against high-performing races and genders in favor of low performing ones. Many parts of affirmative action, like quotas, have been found unconstitutional.

I'm not talking about why it was implemented tho, and I'm not even saying I have a problem with it as a white person, because PERSONALLY I don't (even tho it makes me uncomfortable to not hire a more qualified white person, but whatever).

A lot of other white people don't feel the way I do, and they're mad that they're more qualified than the minority person that gets the job. I've seen it happen countless times.

My last job even told one of my coworkers that she didn't get the promotion she wanted even tho she was more qualified for the position because they went with a diversity hire... That pisses a lot of people off and we end up with Trump in office which I tend to think is worse of the country/world

High performing "races" and "genders" Girl remove the S. You've just shown your priviledge.:neyde:

White people can FEEL oppressed/discriminated all they want. But the reality is that they're not. At least not on the same institutional scale that POC are. Affirmative action is needed more than ever in 2017

It's not about dismissing white struggles nn. It's about prioritizing. POC are being killed by the police, denied jobs and disenfranchised into poor neighborhoods because of their skin color. That's a little more important than whatever discrimination white people are facing lmao. white people do not experience racism, discrimination or oppression on the same scale as POC. Can you explain to me some examples of discrimination that white people face for being white?
