blackcoffee 1,264
I know these types of threads pop up all the time, but it’s been on my mind lately, especially with all the recent studio pics, so I figured I’d share. Let me start by saying I am a lover of music. I have my preferences, but I listen and love music in almost all genres, although I’ll be honest in saying I have not been a fan of the trendy, EDM heavy pop sound over the last couple of years. I’m 27 and grew up listening to almost all the same music as Gaga. Classic rock and pop, from the 70s and 80s, is probably my favorite and I feel I love Gaga most when’s channeling the artist she was inspired by with this classic pop and rock sound. As much as I would love Gaga to go full on rock, or go full out psychedelic, queer flower child rock pop (I could write a whole other thread on that...imagine the aesthetic of the BTW/TEOG/CTM part of JWT with Tame Impala like psychedelic pop rock 😍), I feel she’s going to go in a more R&B direction, and I’m totally excited for what they may hold. For this next album, I hope she goes in a more R&B Soul direction. Soul music is a genre of music I feel Gaga would sound so amazing in and is one she hasn’t dived much into. Her voice is best in jazz, and jazz is a genre very close to soul and R&B. I imagine a good mix of piano led soul ballads, soul R&B dance pop, and some throwback Amy Winehouse esque jazzy neo soul R&B. A nice blend of uptempo and downtempo. I think of Mariah Carey’s “Emancipation of Mimi”...all R&B soul but a mix of more dancey stuff with ballads (I would die for a song like “We Belong Together”). I imagine a sound like if you mixed artist like Amy Winehouse, Mariah Carey, Adele, Alicia Keys, John Legend (a duet with him would be AMAZING), Lianne La Havas, and even a band like Haim, that bridges rock with R&B, mixed all together with Gaga’s unique pop sensibilities. I think she can make it modern, but classic and timeless. At this point in her career, she needs to keep building off the success of Joanne, and even CTC, in having a universally appealing sound across the spectrum of ages, that’s easily “digested”. She has fans now that are older and those of us that have grown up with her have done just that and have more mature musical taste now (maybe I’m just speaking for myself). Modern, but classic and timeless, not trendy and lifeless. Anyways, that’s my thoughts on it. Makes more sense in my head, haha. R&B Soul Gaga, I need you! nattuggla 21,799
I also would love to hear more R&B from Gaga. However Disco/Funk would also be awesome. Let's hope some of these influences we will hear on the next album.

REALITY 77,026
An R&M/Soul album would be nice, I think she could really do that (the examples with Amy and Mariah are perfect! When she started working with Ronson on this record, I was sure that they were going to go in a soul/jazz/pop direction a la Amy Winehouse). I have a feeling that this album is going to be more of the electronic/synth/dance-pop we are used to getting with her, except with a more modern, "Gaga" spin. I honestly feel like we may be getting more sounds similar to The Cure, I don't know, but I just have the feeling. It did well, despite little to no promotion, and it charted for a good while too. Even if she does a more "traditional Gaga"-esque song, she'll definitely put her own little spin on it. She's always reinventing herself and her sound. Spoiler Also, as a side note for the feel of the next era. I feel like she's going to combine aspects of TFM and Joanne. I feel like sonically, it's going to be the more electronic/synth/dance-pop that I mentioned before, but I feel like she's going to be a lot more open and honest (not saying she wasn't before). With the release of Joanne and the documentary, I feel like she wants to really just release good music without having to live up to the identity of "Lady Gaga"—something she emphasizes in the documentary—which is something I'm perfectly fine with. 1 𝔊𝔬𝔬𝔡𝔟𝔶𝔢, ℑ'𝔩𝔩 𝔰𝔢𝔢 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔦𝔫 𝔪𝔶 𝔡𝔯𝔢𝔞𝔪𝔰
