I have never understood the whole "oh this is a flop" because she expected it. i think it was because she had officially had it with catering to everyone and their mama, and wanted to focus on the two things that had gotten her to where she was at - her artistic vision, and her pop sensibilities; ARTPOP from the get-go was for the hardcore fans who had been there since the beginning, it was between them and Gaga, that nexus of art and its consumer. It was their moment, their music, their visuals, their experiences that really mattered through-out the era and built it to become what it inevitably became.
