Cuchulainn 3,040
I am not posting this to diminish this tragedy. This is awful and I wish more westerners showed more support for terror attacks that happen outside of NA or Europe. I found this from the UK foreign travel advisories site. It appears that terror attacks in Mogadishu occur extremely frequently or ‘almost daily.’ Maybe that’s why these stories don’t blow up? Have we just become accustomed to not caring about that region just because terror occurs so frequently there? It’s a shame —————— Terrorism Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Somalia, including kidnapping. There’s a high threat to western, including British, interests in Somalia, including Somaliland. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in crowded places, high-profile events, events involving government officials and in places visited by foreigners, such as hotels and restaurants Al Shabaab, a proscribed terrorist group, and other groups opposed to the Somali government continue to carry out attacks in and around Mogadishu on an almost daily basis. Terrorist groups operating in Somalia have made threats against westerners and those working for western organisations in Somalia, including Somaliland. There is ongoing serious violence between opposing factions. Attacks increased in the run up to the presidential and parliamentary electoral process in February 2017 and al-Shabaab has since publicly pledged to escalate attacks against the new government. —————— Scary stuff. It must be terrifying for the locals living there. Thoughts and prayers to all affected by this tragedy

Terror attacks there barely ever got coverage, it can’t be about frequency. This carnage was first reported as deadliest single terror attack since 2007, now with body count rising it seems to be deadliest in history of a country. And one of the worst in the world. The silence of the world leaders is telling and expected. This event can’t be politicized much and Somalia is already on ban list... it’s a poor country, destroyed by drought and famine and now this. So far Turkey brought lots of help and even transferred victims to Turkish hospitals. Hope some others will follow. They need help to fight this terrorist group.
