I was going to bash the person who wrote this, but it's an accurate lecture of the pop scene these days.

Someone's not living in the present in Switzerland because she just had like the biggest hit of her career there this year :laughga:

I do agree with a lot of the things they say, except that pop music nowadays is "female", it has been overrun by males in the recent years and women in the music industry in general have not been as successful as they have been like 6 years ago. If you take a look into what's in the top ten acorss every country... It's pretty much 80% men with the occasional token woman appearing.

LEt me go find the bitch that wrote this and shank them. I'm in zurich and coming for this ass. "Lady gaga is too old now and needs to be exchanged" The ass who wrote this obviously needs to be exchanged. I hate journalism. And ofc my flop country would put gaga in a bad light again. This just made me angry...

I think the journalist didn't write this as a personal opinion, but more from the point of view of the music business. It's not just Gaga, but the pop stars who turn 30 yo. It's more of a critic of what's happening today with music.

Well that is true in some way.

She is doing better than her haters and some media try to potray, but it's true that she has a hard time adapting to commercial success nowadays. Just look at her streaming, esspecially youtube.

The problem about this article is when Gaga released a somewhat trendy sound aka The Cure without any promo spots or a music video she still succeded to have a Platinum eligible single. ıf she did every possible radio festival and talk shows like most of the so called “younger artists” she would be as “popular” as them.

Bla bla bla they always said that, even in 2013, and then she played the Superbowl this year. She is at legend-status, a respected musician who influences the culture. :)

But she sells albums, with no doubt, and always hits #1 on Billboard 200.

well let's put Gaga and the new it artists on a big festival, lets see which artists garners the most attention :lolly:

Coachella proves that. Any award show proves that. The Joanne Tour proves that. The 2017 SUPERBOWL proves that.

Nah, but I am aware of the chart slayage that ensued in Switzerland (and how it's been like in the top 10 of iTunes for several months WAY before anybody else believed in that song).

I king of agree with the author. She's not going to set the world on fire again, like in 2009-2011, just like Britney wont like in 2001 again. And that's okay. Her best music may still be yet to come! I also think she is well aware how older female artists are recycled, and I think that's why she is maturing her sound and her image in order to remain a formidable entertainer among adult audiences .

This person sounds ill-informed and out of touch.

-For one thing, the pop scene and charts in general is highly male dominated.

-"Hit factories" are nothing new, but not really true for every successful artist (especially for people who write their own stuff like Kendrick, Bruno, The Weeknd etc)

- Gaga outsells most of those younger artists they listed, even in SPS. The problem isn't that some new, younger girls have come along, especially when newer female artists are having trouble gaining traction themselves. The whole of idea of big, glittery, female fronted pop just isn't in vogue right now for various reasons.

- Of course pop music is heavily influenced by trends

- "fitness" and "self-discipline" are pretty much the standard for 99% of the entertainment industry. Don't really get this point, or how it pertains to Gaga, or is somehow a new thing? Like...what?

- Gaga is only 31. She's not going to be hugely popular with teens, but it doesn't mean she's suddenly over-the-hill. This is especially a moot point for her since Gaga has always been marketed as an adult pop star, not a teen one. And it certainly doesn't mean she needs to retire and only do jazz. Do they not realize there's a whole world of music out there that's doesn't exist for teenagers or geriatrics? Should Pink, Bjork, Lana, St. Vincent, Sia etc. just not even bother anymore also? Is there not a middle ground?

This piece really offers nothing. No solutions, no new insights. Why was it even written? The whole thing has a tinge of sexism too.

Some of it sounds like an insult because of language translation I would imagine.

Writer is basically saying she is past her commercial peak. So is Beyonce and even Pink. It doesn't mean she is a has been. She is on her way to legend status. She can still compete with the new crew, but she won't dominate radio like she did during her peak.
