My recipe for hit songs

It is often said that there is no recipe for hit songs. And while I agree that hit songs are sometimes unpredictable, I think I can make my own recipe for hits. Here it is:

-Catchy: First of all, I think most hit songs have a certain degree of catchyness. Some songs are more catchy than others but they all have that hook that will stick in people's minds

-Relatable: Hit songs are also usually relatable. In other words, the lyrics or theme of a song needs to appeal and relate to many people.

-Trendy: Songs are most likely to big hits if they follow a sound or style that is popular at the time of their release.

-Promo: I think this one is obvious. The more the song is promoted to more likely the song will be successful

-Artist Popularity: I think that it makes sense that if an artist is very popular and that if that artist releases a song, then the song is more likely to be a hit by default.

-Viralness: Basically this is the X-factor for hit songs. If something related to a song goes viral (music video, something the artist did or say, something some else did or say about the song, the lyrics of the song, etc.) then the song might receive a huge boost in the charts.

So these are the six ingredients in my recipe to make a hit song. Now, I am not saying that you need all of these ingredients for a song to be a hit. Or that these will guarantee a hit song. What I am saying is that a song that is a hit will definitely have at least one of the above ingredients. However, the more ingredients the song has, the more the chances that the song will be a hit.

I mean The Cure has all of these (except for Promos)

I think it only has the first three because the song has no promo, Gaga is not that popular right now, and there was nothing viral about it. But like I already said in my OP, there is no guarantee that these will make the song a hit, just that these will increase it's chances.

The lyrics videos itself went viral all over Instagram,Facebook tho. :selena:

By the way Gaga just did the Super Bowl, Coachella. She's like the most popular girl then tho

Well, I don't think that was actually viral. Maybe the video had a short period of time it was popular, but in general I did not see a real "viral" moment. Also, Gaga is still popular, and a lot of people know her, but she is not one of the it artists of the moment.

I don‘t really see a recipe here?

I mean you say that the song has to be catchy but you don’t explain how a song can be catchy? Do you know what I mean?

it’s like you would say:

recipe for a cake:

the cake has to taste and smell good

To be honest, it really is not a requirement for a hit song. This is sad but I think this is the truth.

Sure, but I think in general we know what catchy means. That is why I did not specify it. It just means that the song has a hook that makes it stick in your mind and or that makes you sing/rap along to it. This is usually something repetitive in the song like a vocal or a beat. But this is a bit subjective.

Hooks are what made Gaga's previous singles so catchy and successful. Joanne's songs has less hooks, thus they're not as catchy. But Gaga can always write a great pop song, The Cure has catchy hooks and it resonates well with the GP. It only lacked promo :reductive:
