That J 12,166
This was an amazing time to be a pop music fan. Right now we are celebrating milestones for 2 albums that DID have one thing in common. Both Madonna's Erotica and Ms Jackson's (cuz I'm nasty) Velvet Rope were drastic changes from the albums and eras that came before them. Two of the biggest stars on the planet both released albums that, while weren't immediately deemed commercially successfully, critics applauded. Time ultimately proved both albums as peaks rather than failures. The Velvet Rope is a full on RECORD. It's an album to be played front to back and is a true journey. It's not overly complicated, it's not pretentious, it's simply the journey of a young woman's reflection as she embraces parts of her mind and body previously ignored. The beats are still fresh, the message eternal and the ballads are both masterfully seductive and incredibly personal and strong. While I'm forever Team Rhythm Nation, it's always a good time to come with J inside, inside that Velvet rope.
