fabulous string of brainwash comments.

1k decide to poop on someone's birthday party in a country of 150M (700 in Moscow)

Western media picks it up, naturally blows up the number

a drama-loving native decides to post about it on a pop forum with ridiculously blown-up numbers

fellow drama lovers enjoy a conversation about rigged elections and gays being hunted down in a parallel universe where that is indeed happening and all of humanity is not putting evidence against the second most scrutinized human to use.

it's not even entertaining. it's poor health.

Why do they look almost the same????

because they don't and then maybe because they're one nation, all clean-shaven and dressed the same?

there's really no way you see them looking similar enough to comment on it... or are you East Asian?

With all due respect,

1. You: a drama-loving native decides to post about it on a pop forum with ridiculously blown-up numbers

Me: They were less crowded than the Spring Protests, but massive enough to attract attention and cause some media fuss

Me: hundreds and thousands of hunties (and other people too) have gathered in most cities of Russia - hundreds in some cities and thousands in other cities, not hundreds of thousands, I hope you didn't get the impression that there were more than 100,000 people in some cities, because I clearly didn't write that. Also, if you look attentively at the pictures I've posted, you might be shocked to find out some of them are not that crowded.

2. You: Western media picks it up, naturally blows up the number

Me: Nothing of what I posted there comes from the sources that are credited as Western Media, they all arrive from twitter accounts of those who attended the actions and from Meduza, the only credible news agency in Russia that is not engaged for or against Putin.

If something from my post led you to believe that I somehow regard these street gatherings as the riots that are about to overthrow Putin's regime, I can assure you I certainly don't. I just meant to say that there were people at protests in Russia, I did nothing to intentionally make other members overestimate their numbers or to corrupt people with the Western agenda. The narration which you refer to as "drama loving" is indeed present in my post, it's a branch of humour I'm fond of, if you don't get it it's nice, because the greatest thing about humour is its diversity, right?

I misread about the numbers but you're still kinda full of **** because Western media is already on it (which is all I meant) and members who read this topic obviously think Russia is as bad as Western culture and you "joke" it is and there's a big enough portion of the population waiting for him to die so that they can have real democracy. don't know about "real" but democracy in Russia is at least as "real" as it is in the West.

...and human rights are the least of Russia's worries anyway. you know your history, the one they taught you in your schools. you know your people. you know why they vote him. you know why he has to stick with tradition. you know he has to be the biggest risk taker in the world... or maybe you don't... but you should be proud of your country not doing a cultural/political 180 since the fall of the USSR.

you can joke without fueling the propaganda. it aims to make your country lose its position, not your leader.

btw I like you for showing attitude without being a psychotic weirdo and taking this all too seriously... it might be because you're Russian... think about that.

So wait a minute, he's full of sh*t cuz he created a forum about a topic Western media happened to cover in a way you deem reprehensible? Ok :selena:

I don't even want to touch the rest of your spiel, like seriously, biggest risk taker? Ok :selena: :selena:

1. I really had no idea Western media are covering it, that's why I thought to post it here, because I haven't seen anybody else post it.

2. I am not sure I understand that line you've written about the "joke" but if you loo attentively at my posts in the thread you'll find out I was not joking about his death and about his guards dying, and I even reacted to one joke about that with a shocked.gif. I don't wish him death.

3. You: don't know about "real" but democracy in Russia is at least as "real" as it is in the West.

You know that will take us many posts to debate, and I'm not sure you have the time or you're interested in it, but here we go. First of all, I'd love to set everything straight with the terms and conditions. I want to look at firstly democracy as in the election system and,  secondly, democracy as a way the institutions of society cooperate.

As for the election system, there's little difference between Russia and the West, however a jape it seems. I would even go as far as to say that Russia has the most democratic - in the Greek sense of the term - election system of the Lower House of Parliament and the President, when compared to France, the UK and the USA. In the UK the House of Commons elects the Prime Minister, thus the boundary between legislative and executive branches of power (in theory) blur. Germany has the same democratic Bundestag election system, but President in Germany matters less than chancellor. France has a democratic system of choosing the President, but their National Assembley system has a lot of threats, just like in the USA and the UK.

As for democracy as a way the institutions of society cooperate. Western Democracy, in my opinion, I would be glad to hear your opinion on that, is based on 3 key principles:

public political competition - i don't think that this competition is perfect, or that it is fair, neither am I foolish to believe that there are no administrative, structural, institutional or financial barriers if somebody wants to gain votes. It may also be that the whole competition is staged, but when the competing parties/forces have different views on many matters, it seems they are really competing. In West, one can choose between Dems and Reps, Cons and Labour, etc... In Russia, there are just three parties except for Putin's party, and the leaders of those three parties have not changed since 1993. They fully depend on Putin in terms of financing and thus they never really present any point of view deviating from the government position, except for the Communists. As for the Presidential elections, Putin's opponents are hand-picked by his Administration. So I'd say that only those who are personally approved by Putin and the circle of his closest friends are admitted to politics of a certain level. (starting from the position of mayor of a 1,000,000+ populated city.) That's the difference with the West, and a rather significant one. Putin can decide who can enter the game. There are also people in West who can decide who's to enter the game, but they are too many to count, not just one man and his friends. Yes, the third party is as good as non-existent in the USA, but an option of two is better than an option of one.

freedom of media - I am not saying diversity, representation of all sides and the absence of biased things. I also understand that the largest media in the West are controlled by share-holders, editors and click-bait sh*t. But government seldom can silence the media in the West and let alone physically destroy them. In Russia, there's not a single TV channel that allows itslef to criticize the government or Putin. The last one was shut down last year. After they published the news about Putin's daughter, the owner of the channel had to sell it to a state-owned newspaper and they say he now lives in the USA. You'd probably think like: why do they even care about TV there, don't they have Internet? The problem's here is that the population's getting older and it's still more about TV than Internet. And when there are no options on TV, when every freaking host tells us how great our leader is while our economy is in the greatest threat it has ever witnessed, it's gross. You may say that the anti-Trump hysteria is no better, but there's at least FOX news and other outlets that support Trumo, while in Russia Putin is only adored.

rule of law - the owner of the 4th or 5th biggest oil company in the country was thrown into jail three years ago and he was let out only after he "donated" his company to the state. And the court didn't do a thing to protect his rights. And I won't go on explaining all the awful things about the system of powerless court can have. I'm sure you're smart enough to understand why Putin and his friends can't allow themselves to have an independent court. Sadly, the lack of courts power affects a lot of people. Domestic violence has been recently decriminalized, LGBTQ were murdered in Chechnya massively, armed idiots have been abusing and assaulting the volunteers from protest movement and the police and the court do nothing about it, and that's just the top of the iceberg.

So in those three elements, rule of law, freedom of media and political competition Russia is far away from the West and thus our democracies are not the same.

4. You: you know why he has to stick with tradition.

This touches so much, I'm going to reply to it later or DM you if you don't mind.

5. You: you can joke without fueling the propaganda. it aims to make your country lose its position, not your leader.

That's a fair point, alright. I'll try to be more cautious when reporting news about my country, hope I'll help to change some of the stereotypical views.

Thank you for the feedback, by the way, it's great to have discussion with people with strong character and different point of view, I'll remember to write that one thing about tradition if you are interested.
