It might be a commercial flop but I'm happy that Miley experimented by writing her whole album. After this, she now knows in which direction to go for the next album, and a non-successful tour will tarnish her legacy.

Not surprising tbh. Miley’s bangerz tour actually LOST money, and that was her commercial peak. Her current era is a complete mess, and has failed even with all the promo. The dead petz era and the mismanagement of Younger Now has done a lot of damage, she may never do well again.

I think Gaga will always tour for her future albums. But I think she realized that she can sell stadiums and that means that the tour can be cut down to like 40 or 50 dates which isn't too much of a strain on her body.

Well if it means she cuts / delays / cancels more dates on next tour I think she should consider not touring at all for next album..

This flopped way harder then Witness tho. Witness still had a top 5 hit and went number one.

Miley's lead single barely scrapped top 10 and the album is debuting at number 5.

Again, tour bundles. We don't know Katy's real numbers. People were saying she wouldn't have gone #1 if there was no extra promo. Katy did do better with her singles though.

Yes, I know tour bundles were used but Katy Perry most likely wouldn't have fallen below 100k without them. As The debuts of their lead singles showed, Katy is clearly much bigger then Miley.

Idk, I remember seeing numbers being much lower for her due to the added bundles. Even now because they keep adding bundles to her weekly sales. And there wasn't a huge difference in sales regarding first week or longevity. Miley debuted with a good number for Malibu and still managed to go platinum. In Katy standards, yes the album was a flop. But she still toured. Which is why I'm wondering why Miley couldn't at least tour theaters or intimate venues.

She did a small venue tour with Dead Petz, so I don't see why she can't do the same again? I mean, she'd just have to do it in America, it's the only place she's really going to sell. She could just do what Kesha's doing. But is she too proud to do such a tour again? Because Dead Petz was free, she realised a tour had to be small, but it looks like she was expecting better with Younger Now? Perhaps she thought she'd really connect with the country market, meaning she could do lots of gigs in the south and midwest? But as it turns out, those parts have abandoned her now. Her image change was so drastic and she's been doing it for the last 4 years, so to suddenly go back to country Destiny Hope Cyrus singing about beaches and peace, just didn't wash. In this political time, with Trump now reigning so supreme in red states, I just don't know if they're here for Miley's liberal messages, even if it is with a country theme. And liberal states, well, they were down for her during the Bangerz era and naturally, are turned off now that she's gone back to being sweet and public-friendly again. I just don't know why Malibu did so well but it resulted in next to no interest for any of the follow-ups or the album? I know she took too long a break from lead single to album, but still. The public have low attention spans like never before. That's why so many artists now release a single and then put the album out a month later. Back in the day, you could put out 2, maybe even 3 singles pre-album, involving a 3/4 month run-up to the big album drop. But now it's totally different. You just can't afford to hang around and eke out the prequel to an album anymore. People move on too fast. Taylor's the only one who's still got the power to do that (Reputation is still just over a month away) but I can't think of anyone else who can.

What you said is very true, I don't know why you got dislikes for it. She had to reschedule some dates due to "illness" (though I'm still doubting that) and for some reason, the one in Mashantucket didn't crossover, so I think it just had low sales and it was a great excuse to just drop it. The Dominican Republic one got banned by the government, so a loss there. And one in Brazil got cancelled and the second Sydney date got cancelled for unknown reasons, so it was probably low sales, judging by how she did in the rest of the region. She did terribly in Europe - the last time she came to the UK, she sold out 5 dates at the O2 arena and even set a record for the biggest single-show attendance at the venue but this time, she could only do one date there and couldn't even sell it out even then. Out of 78 dates, there was only demand for a second date in one city (Monterray, Mexico). That's a very low demand for someone who was at their peak. I think this proved to her team that she had to dial it back a bit and play it a bit safer from then on out, hence the indie-level tour for Dead Petz. After Malibu unexpectedly did so well on the charts, I really wondered if I'd called it wrong and perhaps she was going to have another decent era, even after all the scandal from Bangerz and the failed Dead Petz project. But no, this might be it for her as a huge name. The only thing is, I don't think this is what she was aiming for. This era was to get the public back onside and it's not working out like she hoped.

As always, I enjoy reading your pov. I really thought that Miley was going to get the GP back on her side after Malibu's release cause it was on the radio compared to other recent releases. Her last 2 albums were personal but you can see that people were turned off by another "new" Miley if you know what I mean. It has been a different Miley per each new release.

I can confirm this. People were campaining of not getting tickets for the first night so a second date was added. BUT ALSO tickets were given out for free to fans that bought for GA floor when they entered the venue on the first night...

I find Miley to be extremely curious and interesting. I wasn't ever really a fan but I started watching her. To go so nutty with the Bangerz era, then to do a "free album" (which I found cool) with Dead Petz, an album I still love, then to come out with this country hippie sunshine fiesta is just odd. I give the girl props all night long for doing what she wants tho!  I just hope it doesn't cost her any integrity in the future. She very well could do a small intimate theater/club tour and nobody would crap on her. Ya can always say it's scaled down because the album is scaled down. Blah blah. But if the studio or label isn't behind it, then that's a huge risk on her part. So, with all that, I can understand not touring. The bad thing is..you can release videos all day long but the era is basically done just like that.

See, that’s why I’m so confused by this situation. She doesn’t have to necessarily tour or do large shows at all, but she did in the past (for a free album nonetheless). It’s just, strange to me. I have a feeling it may have to do with label/management support. But that’s just a theory of course :laughga:

It HAS to do with that surely because she may have helped fund the Dead Petz Tour and even if it's a success to do so, it still is a risk investing that much money without support. Like you said, that was for a FREE album even. I'm sure she would like to tour this album and perhaps she will down the line but I doubt it. Nothing is planned and the live market is getting packed FAST. What's funny is she probably IS happy to be taking care of those pigs....ya know how much animals mean to her. RIP Pablo. 😉

Maybe somewhere down the line she will, but yeah, I agree. I’m thinking that’s the case.

Look at all the tours coming up. Gaga continues, Pink, Taylor Swift,  Sam Smith, among others. The market is gonna be pretty crowded in 2018. And that's not even counting surprise releases.
