HANZ 4,380
I disagree I love Born This Way, I don't get the hate for it, it HAD to be the lead single and it's honestly ICONIC at this point, you always get the "Born Thsi Way " phrase when it comes to LGBT rights, problems, news, etc imo the era should have been like this 1.- Born thsi way 2.- Marry The Night 3.- The Edge Of Glory 4.- ScheiBe 5.- You and i but oh well My Favs = Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Ricky Martin, AKB48

babs 5,093
I absolutely agree tbh, TEOG should have been the lead and then have BTW in the place of Judas (she needed to get her message accross) The slayage would have been real. She would have taken the radio for ransom.
Gov Hooka 8,008
Sorry but BTW was no necessary for a cultural statement. No song has been that big and so explicitly pro LGBTQ. Such a good message for Gaga to make at the start of the era. TEOG should've been the second single. Judas killed everything

Moo 2,082
I think Born This Way was by far the best way to start the album cycle. It was her big hyped new release after a monster of a debut album. Releasing the most all-out, club ready banger was the perfect way to do that. The fact that it was so unabashed in its gay theme was part of what made her, and the song, so damn bad-ass. I wouldn’t change that for a thing. What really damaged the era as had already been said, was Judas. It didn’t take off like they thought it would, and only really damaged the performance of BTW and TEOG. I love the video, I love the song and I love the looks from the Judas era, but from a commercial and public image perspective, it was were the damage started. Waiting an extra month or so after Easter and then releasing The Edge of Glory, with full radio support, would have been the best way to do things. Oh well

What would have happened if it was the lead instead, and then they still decided to release judas as the second single? I doubt any other song, even BTW, would have made a bigger impact than TEOG to save her from all that backlash and controversy If they had been smart enough to release TEOG as the lead, they wouldn't have released Judas tbh, at least not as the 2nd single especially when BTW was there.
