Where has Gaga lost her touch?

She's slaying, exercising all aspects of artistry. Sometimes the visuals, sometimes the pure music, always the unexpected. She has not lost her touch.

Edge Of Venus

I might get a lot of flak for this but I think she's been too focused on rebuilding her brand and regaining public perception after the ARTPOP era, instead of being the unapologetic artist that pushes the envelope, so the Joanne era comes off a bit too calculated and controlled. The Lady Gaga that I I used to know was a bold, fearless and creative genius, and deep down you know that she has lost that spark. But it's okay, the image rebuilding was necessary for her career and now she has all the freedom to explore more with the next album. I just really really hope Interscope doesn't force her to record MR 2.0 and make her an adult-contemporary artist like P!nk. That'd be SO BORING.

I think she got tired of being a pop star during the ARTPOP era, it was messy and got her in a really bad moment. I think she didn't lost a thing, she's just taking a break from all that do she can be herself again

... and now i just sit in silence.

I still thing Gaga still goes strong in most departments.  However she has gotten a bit weak in some.

Promo.  While Joanne era had fantastic music, the promo was seriously lacking.  Wrong singles were chosen. I miss seeing Gaga all the time on TV.  Dancing In Circles could have been at least at number 10 on BB if it were the lead single.   The Cure was the one that upset me the most.  IMO, one of the best songs ever.  Great lyrics, production and a magical hook.  Sad that it wasn't pushed to be a hit.  Only got a lyric video.

MUSIC VIDEOS.  She used to be the queen of music videos.  They would get people talking.  They won awards.  They inspired Halloween costumes.  They were wild.  Eye catching.  Her last awesome music video was Applause.  G.U.Y. was really cool but it didn't have the flashy Gagaish images that I love.  PI was good but nothing rewatch able.  MR was absolute terrible.  JW was good but not good enough to get any attention.

Other than I still think she's doing everything else right.  She can dress really crazy when she wants to and knocks it out of the park.  Her performances and on stage presence is still powerful.

Lets sit confused child. Have a seat and we shall have a talk.

Promo: Okay y'all but some promo for Joanne if you clearly do not remember interview after interview on the radio and even her performances in Japan, SNL, Carpool Karaoke, Super Bowl (I mean i think this has to be the biggest one), Victoria's secret fashion show, itunes commercials The dive bar tour, instagram, facebook, twitter. Pretty much it was everywhere . Also lets not forget Five Foot Two... It basically gave an insight into the making of Joanne and Gaga's life during the album process, and it shows at the end how much promo the album went through.

Some promo to say the least:

Spoiler

Sure the cure didn't get a music video, but I hear that and Million reasons on the radio daily. The Super Bowl brought Million Reasons to the top 5, and IDK how high The Cure peaked... but everyone I know loves it, and it's their favourite Gaga song. Without Promo she was able to get the general publics attention for the cure.

Music Videos: Yes I understand and will agree with you that her music videos this era were weaker than those of her previous albums but lets take this into consideration. Gaga has been channeling Joanne this era. She's toned down Gaga and FF2 was showed that. She wanted to make music she wanted to perform, and we know she's not 100% into music videos. And besides I don't hear anyone anymore go... "Hey have you seen so and so's new music video?" TBH i think the time of the music video is dead, but lets not forget that Perfect Illusion is a Vevo certified music video.

Final thoughts are me saying lets not forget that Joanne did peak at #1 on the album charts, so that there says she has not lost her touch.

She really doesn't do high-energy danceable club bops anymore. And that makes me sad. I want another Just Dance.

That could change in the next era though. We never know what she's going to do next.

The only thing I think she is lacking is music videos. Which is ridiculous considering her history of putting out great visuals. I think maybe it's because of her busy schedule, rushed singles, and maybe she just didn't know how to treat the aesthetic of something straightforward like Million Reasons.

Both the lack of promo and the MV were due to a more settle down period after the ARTPOP era. Plus it's just 1 era (the last one) that has some changes to it, and everyone loses their head.

Let the woman grow and take a rest. You cannot expect her to continue the high routine she used to have while handling chronic pain every single day.

I think Gaga was very smart about her decisions. Someone in the thread said it was very calculated, and I do agree, but in a good way. Gaga managed to do so much big promo for Joanne that gave her steady sales while managing to not overexpose her. In simpler terms, she was everywhere but not everywhere at the same time. The music videos fit the songs quite perfectly and with what I said about avoiding overexposure, is probably exactly why she avoided making super crazy artistic, bold, controversial videos. MAYBE THATS WHY DANCIN IN CIRCLES ISNT A SINGLE. That bitch. But anyways, it makes sense to me when I think of it this way, and it's a smart move coming from ARTPOP.

I think the Joanne era is near flawless. They made a lot of smart moves.

She didn't lose her touch in regards to promo, she never liked doing promo in the first place. She has said that multiple times, and when she resigned with Interscope, it was within her contract that she got to decide how much promo she would do because she was overworked during the Born This Way Era.

And her music videos this era...I didn't particularly care for them (John Wayne was okay, but not at all on par with her previous videos imo), but all it takes is watching Five Foot Two to understand why most visuals were missing. It is what it is, aside from the tour, this album cycle is almost over. Let's see what the next one brings us.

In regards to the single, I think a lot of people differ in what they think should have been chosen. Myself? Either A-Yo or Million Reasons as the lead, and the opposite as the second single. While I enjoy Dancin In Circles immensely, the silly chorus makes it suffer (again, this is just my opinion).  Same goes for John Wayne.

I beg to differ  Joanne is a personal album so she had to take a different approach. Otherwise during the era she gave us Gaga antics as per usual.
