It's so crazy to me that currently Gaga's fanbase is talking about how Youtube streams will negatively impact her sales, given that a significant portion of her meteroric rise to fame was due to her incredible music videos. Each one was a huge event, and she was the ultimate visual artist. I know she's changed a lot since her debut, but Joanne is really the only era with very underwhelming MVs (although JW was definitely a great step back in the right direction, but since it wasn't a single, it's impossible to guess what the potential impact could've been).

Anyway, I'll be a huge fan of Gaga's no matter what, and will continue to support her as she evolves artistically, but I really hope she starts making amazing MVs again. It's such a huge part of her impact on pop culture and overall legacy.

Good. Music streaming services, YouTube, and everything already incorporated determine popularity.

Just because it's not good for your fave, it doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

I was under the impression these charts measured the popularity of music, and that's not exclusive to sales.

The market is changing and so will the charts.

nope. as you said it measures the popularity of ~music~, which is why it makes sense to count it for individual songs a.k.a hot100 (which it already does).

but youtube views are in no way shape or form a reflection of an ~album's~ popularity. why would one viral video push the album it's on to the top of the bb200? people will start tacking viral videos onto their albums to get higher on the charts.

the only way this could be logical is if they only counted the audio version of songs. that makes a lot more sense.

chaeri pls

Yeah I agree the audio video should count for sure.

This will be interesting to see though. Artists will have to step up their game to remain relevant in this age in terms of obtaining views.

This is tragic. I really don't know what's gonna happen next. It's just gonna be what's trending, and having talentless people get multiple No. 1s.

It's a bad thing. Selling albums will become irrelevant. It's easier to get a viral to make you number #1

itss a necessary step for the future. whether y'all like it or not streaming is the future and they have to adapt for things like that. millions of people get their music from youtube these days, almost exclusively
