All these immigrants from South Korea and other deeply homophobic countries move to the USA for more freedom of sexuality and gender identity expression. I don't see many moving to Congo or Mexico. There are different types of power. The US is losing what is referred to as "soft power" which has to do with getting others to do what you want through influence, etc. The US has been losing this power for many years now. venusfly 17,885 Posted October 3, 2017 Share Posted October 3, 2017 They voted against this because the bill also included a line calling on all member nations to cease use of the death penalty entirely, which the US can't exactly back because they employ the death penalty themselves in some states, it didn't have much at all to do with homosexuality. Plenty of countries that treat sexual minorities horridly and have agreed to things like this in the past ended up doing nothing afterwards. It's just to make nations look good without practical application, so the US isn't concerned with looking bad because it means nothing practically either.
