Yea that sucks. BUT we all know she'll come back and kick ass when she tours. At least she'll find success there.

I honestly expected her to get a bad score tbh since its her first in 15 yrs. Vocally her voice is weaker because of her vocal condition. I forgot what ots called, but i comend her for coming back and writing it solo for the first time. I read she wants to keep making albums now so her next could be a win

Having a huge team of songwriters, producers and people who collect samples from different songs, give payola to these "critics" to give your album great reviews? :oprah:

I think "All of us" are good :trollga:

She have the voice and emotions to make a song happen. You can have all the best team but if your voice are not it or if you overdo it, the song won’t live to the potential and fall flat instead. And there are so many examples of that already. You can pull this BS up each time Beyoncé is in discussion but you should know better tbh

Anyway, I kinda guess this would happen to her album. The first single is not making any impact and the follow up are no different. It will be that album that people appreciate better few years down the line tbh. I don’t think the album is that bad actually

Gypsy Life

"I will cut to the chase – Now by Shania Twain is pure ****.

We can read this in one of two ways. Number one: is Twain's Now is radically ****? Does it radically impose a campness onto a hierarchy of male-created top-down tastes? Number two: are these just inoffensively ****, insipid and complicit songs for the 'yaaasss queen' generation?"

Drowned In Sound went in. :sharon:

I gave the album a rundown and my favorite song is "We've Got Something They Don't", which is about as lively as this album gets. I was prepared for her voice to be different and it doesn't sound bad. The voice isn't the problem. The fact that the whole album is either midtempo or ballad isn't the problem. There's decent cuts here but overall, the music itself is lackluster and she sounds completely bored to death. The life that once poured thru each moment of her music is now replaced with monotonous warbling. The result sadly becomes more of a downer than anything else.  Maybe time will make this collection better. As of NOW, this is a comeback that's unfortunately uninviting.

5/10

Welp, looks like the critics aren't liking Shania Twain's comeback album. It currently has a score of 53 on Metacritic with 7 reviews in.

The Los Angeles Times gave the album a review of 60 saying:

"the problem is Twain’s singing...the uptempo material, which feels flat and robotic, just as Twain’s performance at this year’s Stagecoach festival did. In her heyday, Twain sang with an exuberance to match her and Lange’s busy, vivid arrangements. But that attitude is sorely lacking from a party song like “More Fun,” in which her exhortation to “get a little crazy and forget what happens later” is about as convincing as an ad in an airline magazine."

All Music gave the album a 50 saying:

"Now is melodically undernourished, with hooks never quite materializing in either the choruses or the excessively polished arrangements...[the] production feels as hesitant and inarticulate as the songs."

Drowned in Sound was harsh and gave the album a 20, saying:

"What was promised to be Twain's 'very, very pure' album is anything but. ... A terrible album."

Sorry Shania :( We still love you though!

Just A Holy Fool

She almost did not make this album, she probably shouldn't have. She has a catalogue most artists would dream of, and can clearly still make a living off of it. I feel the album was just an excuse tour, which is fine. She still commands huge money. Panned album or not, she is still a legend and will continue to be,.

Um, I actually love this album (better than Joanne) and most of these reviews are overly harsh. She sounds great, regardless of what she's been through. And this song is sooooo good:

And actually, it's a lie to say the album is getting "panned". It's getting mixed reviews, with the negative ones unfairly comparing this album to her past music. I think this reviewer said it best:

"It would be folly to compare Now to her early work. Instead, think of this as an artist without much to gain, who’s always been sensitive to the spotlight, stepping up to share something deeply personal. Like it or not, that takes guts."
