Wasn't it Dr. Luke/Zedd/Max Martin (i can't remember which one) who said this for the reason it won't do well commercially? Commericial viability structure isn't applicable for the Grammys unless the song is Shape Of You.

The song being written "a bit off" should give the voters a refreshing view of songwriting, which is the basis for awarding SOTY (And even ROTY). :classy:

I find it hard to listen to haha, but if the other Grammy voters this year love it, so be it. I enjoy a lot of the rest of the album though. And it was Max :)

Edge Of Venus

I thought MR would have a high chance of getting nominated but I feel like Praying is going to snatch its place. :(

MR is going to snatch at least one grammy for pop solo or SOTY (but the latter might be pushing it, since SOTY is pretty competitive).

I'd also say that Joanne has a pretty strong chance at winning best pop vocal album - the promo has been insane this whole era and FFT dropped at such a pivotal moment improving her odds.

Also Gaga hasn't performed three years straight at the grammys for no reason - only time will tell ;)

Firstly, Despacito is nominated in both ROTY and SOTY in the Latin Grammys. Despacito is not even a well-written song. SOTY awards for the songwriting and Despacito is not SOTY material. ROTY maybe but not SOTY. Happy was the biggest song of 2014 and it was snubbed in both ROTY and SOTY :reductive:

But the thing with Despacito and Happy is that they were HUGE hits.

For general fields in the Grammys the song/album has to be either hugely popular (as in one of the biggest songs of the year) or completely new and different in a good way and critically acclaimed. Green Light works for the latter. MR doesn't fit in.

I'm still gonna root for MR to get its deserved noms but I just don't see and SOTY/ROTY noms with such huge competition this year

Praying and MR could also split voters and sabotage themselves.

Some get snubbed :trollga: Plus Green Light isn't something Grammy voters prefer :hor: I can say in confidence that MR is. Jazz, pop, country voters will mostly vote for MR :hor:

They could also vote Praying or even a Miley track and they'll split voters. Green Light is so different to most songs released this year and won't be in competition to split any voters.  Still gonna root for Gaga tho but SOTY/ROTY is so hard to get nominated for.

Happy wasn't nominated for both:emma:

For ROTY, it has to be a huge hit but for SOTY, it doesn't necessarily need to be a huge smash, but commercial performance accounts for consideration too.

Miley is not getting anywhere near Grammys. Her album is panned by critics and she kinda flopped in commercial performance.

Green Light flopped in commercial performance. MR has a more traditional sound, stripped down like Adele, which Grammys voters prefer while GL has a more pop sound, which Shape Of You already is.

Praying is likely but chances aren't as high as MR. There's a blue ribbon panel to decide the final 5 nominations from the top 20 voted. The panel is to fairly divide the nominations. I'm saying MR gets in and Praying is left behind as they are both power ballads and Gaga is a more well-known name amongst Grammy voters. If MR gets in, it has a big chance to win.:tony:
