Does it cost money to certify songs? I don't understand why they have such a catalog of songs/albums that need to be certified. Even if it does cost money, Gaga can certainly afford to have them certified.  Why must we suffer so?

I think it costs $350 per certification. You might not see it as a lot, but keep in mind that Interscope also has other artists that need to have their stuff certified, especially younger artists who are basically dependant on those tokens of success to make people believe they're more popular than they actually are, to pick up even more steam. That's why the label of Melanie Martinez basically certified everything that was certifiable.

As far as I know, you have to pay if you want the plaque, but the certification itself does not cost, they just have to ask for it, I guess they're just waiting for something big (or maybe they're just lazy).

but if a x4 platinum song went x5 platinum, her total would be 61 M not 60.1 M, right?

Don't really know what you mean, but is her US total really at 60.1M? I don't think that's possible since they only certify in 500,000s or 1,000,000s. Unless you're counting in video certifications
